About this listen

Remi: All I wanted was to be away from the limelight, away from my parents. A perfect place where I could live a simple life. A fresh start. A small beach town. That's what I thought I found, until the tortured ocean-colored eyes of the town outcast catch me off guard.

Everyone warns me to stay away from him. They tell me he's a monster. His eyes tell another story, though, and I need to know what it is. It becomes almost an obsession.

Jacob: A fresh start in a place where no one knows me…or so I thought. This place has become my own personal Hell. That is…until her.

She’s the only one who doesn’t look at me with contempt. She tries to force her way into my life, but she's better off staying away. She doesn’t deserve this life sentence they’ve given me....

I loved Jacob and Remy when I read their story, but listening to it brought all those emotions back ten-fold. These narrators gave life to these characters and this story amazingly!

What an amazing book. The story line kept me on the edge of my seat and the emotions that are not only portrayed via the writing, but also in the audio had me feeling deeply all throughout. I feel like the story is not your everyday story line which made it a good, more unique, read. I am so glad I stumbled across this book. I hope the other books in the series come out on Audible in the near future!

Listen and feel your heart break and then be put back together again. This a beautiful story of perseverance in the darkest of days. This author is new to me and one that will be added to my list of great writers.

I purchased this book just over a year ago, but for some reason, it rested in my TBR pile. However, I then discovered that it was available in audio, and I knew I just had to listen to it. Robert Hatchet wonderfully provides the narration as the tortured Jacob, while Shiloh James is perfect as the incredibly lovely Remi; their performances are perfect and full of emotion.

At 17 Jacob was falsely accused of raping the girl he'd crushed on for some time. He was convicted and sent to prison for ten years. He lost everything and everyone, even his parents believed him guilty, and his supposed friends deserted him.

Upon his release, he tries to move on with his life by buying a home and boat in a small town but because he's on the sex offender registry the people in the town all believe him guilty of the crime and want him gone, none more so than Jolene the owner of the general store. But he's determined to stick it, pretending to be fine, living life alone.

Remi comes from a very different background; she is the daughter of wealthy, prominent parents and wants to start living her own life, not the life mapped out for her as a member of a prominent family. After repeatedly trying to make her parents understand that she's not happy and wants to make her own way, she decides to just leave. She moves to the same small out-of-the-way town as Jacob and buys a house on the beach. She gets a job working at the general store and sets out to live her life on her terms. Being a small town, she soon learns about everyone, including Jacob, whom she is warned to stay away from. But she feels drawn to him; something about him makes her want to befriend him and tells her that things aren’t the way they seem. She persistently pushes herself on him, she joins him on the beach, takes him food and even offers to teach him to cook. Slowly, she worms her way into his life.

Jacob begins to open up to her, for the first time in ten years, he allows himself to believe he has a friend. Remi begins to pull him out of his shell, but when she accidentally learns the truth, she's determined to try and get people to change their minds about him.

This is a heartwrenching rollercoaster ride, my heart bled for Jacob, he suffered so much, and just when he thought he had a chance at happiness, everything was ripped away from him again! As for Remi, I couldn't believe the lengths her parents were prepared to go to to keep her at home as their puppet! I was impressed with how well this difficult subject matter was handled by the author, but that said, I wish that his innocence could have been proven; it would have made their HEA even better.

Who doesn’t love a good tortured hero? My kryptonite for sure. Jacob is so broken and such a grump. Life changed in a moment just being at the wrong place. My heart broke for him over and over … and then slowly was pieced together.
Remi is such a ball of sunshine with her own issues being a socialite’s daughter. She’s so intrigued by the grumpy and attractive town recluse. He just doesn’t seem to be the evil man everyone warns her about. She sees something different - something broken - something so capable of love.
I originally read this gem when it was first released and then was able to relive it through this audible. What an amazing performance by both narrators! Both brought Remi and Jacob to life capturing every emotion so beautifully.

Wronged is a compelling and heartfelt story about finding love under challenging circumstances and the complexities of societal judgment. It’s raw, emotional, and heartbreaking in all the right ways.

I appreciated how the book addressed such heavy themes—false accusations, and the kind of trauma that can haunt someone for years. It’s not an easy read, and it’s definitely not for everyone, but the story felt important. It shows that love isn’t always about perfect timing or smooth paths.

This is more than just a romance—it’s a story about injustice, small-town prejudice, resilience, understanding, compassion, and two lost souls finding solace in each other.

At the heart of it, we have Jacob, a man who’s been branded guilty by a town that refuses to see the truth. He’s broken, but not beyond repair. And then there’s Remi, the new girl in town, who refuses to look away. She sees past the rumors and into the man behind them. Their connection is intense, slow-burning, and filled with the kind of longing that makes you ache for them.

The audiobook completely elevated the experience for me. Listening to it was like diving into the story in a whole new way, especially with the dual narration. Shiloh James and Robert Hatchet really brought the characters to life in a way that I don’t think I would have felt just reading the book.

Shiloh was amazing as Remi. Her voice carried all the vulnerability and strength that Remi had, and I found myself completely invested in her journey. Shiloh has this incredible ability to switch between Remi’s moments of confidence and her quieter, more uncertain side. Shiloh’s pacing was another highlight. She knew when to slow down and let the emotional moments land, especially when Remi was processing the complexities of her relationship with Jacob. Her performance was both heartfelt and nuanced, making Remi’s journey unforgettable.

Robert’s narration was a standout for me, adding layers of depth to Jacob’s character that made his journey even more powerful. From the very first moment, you could feel the weight of his past in his voice. Robert has this unique ability to convey a sense of inner conflict without ever overdoing it, making Jacob’s pain and hope feel so raw and believable. There’s a certain grit to his voice that fits Jacob’s troubled background perfectly. His voice, at times gravelly and worn, softens in moments of vulnerability, which really pulled me in. The moments where Jacob was trying to hold back, struggling with his emotions, were especially powerful, and Robert’s pacing made those scenes feel so real and intense.
