About this listen

For John Bandicut, Earth is but a memory. Stranded at the edge of the galaxy in a structure populated with beings from a thousand worlds, Bandicut finds unexpected friends...only to be caught up in a cascade of forces that threaten the Shipworld itself.

Confronting an entity known as the "boojum", Bandicut discovers greater peril than ever in his journey into the unknown.

This is the second book in The Chaos Chronicles from the Nebula-nominated author of Eternity's End.

Praise for the book:

"A dazzling, thrilling, innovative space opera...probably Carver's best effort to date." (Kirkus Reviews)

"An irresistibly readable story line reinforced by fascinating speculative science. Readers who come this far will be hooked for the series' duration." (Booklist)

"Carver's latest novel showcases his own fertile imagination and his talent for creating a host of engagingly sympathetic characters." (Library Journal)

"Carver is at his rousing best in this wild ride into the heart of an enigmatic world beyond the Milky Way. This is science fiction out at the frontier. Maybe beyond the frontier." (Jack McDevitt, author of The Engines of God)

Loved it

Love the book, the story, the little extras in the background, and of course Mr Rudnicki, the individual that puts the story in our head.

Interesting enough

Story kept my interest well enough. I can well believe the author’s confession that he had no idea where this sequel was going to go as he was writing it. Lots of filler in places, but I was able to make it through until the story picked up again. I really could’ve done without the narrator’s constant “REEEK REEEEK!”
I’ll likely give the next in the series a try. If it’s anything like this one I might pass on the rest.

Screechy voice of alien characters annoying and unbearable

If not distracted by the screeching alien voices, my rating would have been better. It DID NOT WORK!

Good Listen

Although the story was scattered it came together okay. If the author was looking for chaos, he found it.The performance was good over all but there were quite a few areas that seemed dubbed or sounded different as if recorded at differing times with no continuity. Wasn’t bad just noticeable. I will read 3.

I’d listen to Stefan Rudnicki read the dictionary

Good. I do appreciate not flinching from bad language. Interesting company of people. I hope to get to know better in book three

Well read, interesting story

I appreciate finding a new author of modern science fiction. Interesting conceit and an enjoyable, entertaining experience.

Dejavu

Reminds me of Philip Jose Farmer's River world. out cast or displaced people of different species band together to attempt to learn where and why they are in a be strange place together. Fun read. Thanks Jeffrey Carver.

Aaaccckk

Even the talents of Maestro Rudnicki couldn’t rescue this. The squawking grunts of the parade of aliens, the disjointed ‘plot’ (?) and the complete lack of relatable experiences just make this a mosh.
I wish I could get this credit back…
