About this listen

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Subscribed by Tien Tzuo and Gabe Weisert, read by Dan Woren with an introduction read by Tien Tzuo.

Includes a bonus PDF of illustrations.

Today's consumers prefer the advantages of access over the hassles of ownership. It's not just Internet services like Netflix and Spotify; even industrial firms like GE and Caterpillar are reinventing themselves as solutions providers. Whether you sell software, clothes, insurance or industrial machines, you need to master the transition to the subscription model.

Adapting to the subscription economy takes more than just deciding to sell subscriptions instead of products. You'll have to reinvent your company from the inside out - from your accounting to your entire IT architecture. No matter how large or small your company, Subscribed gives you a practical, step-by-step framework to rebuild your business around a customer-centric, recurring revenue model.

In 10 years, we'll be subscribing to everything: information technology, transportation, retail, health care, even housing. Informed by insights straight from the servers of Zuora, the world's largest subscription finance platform, Subscribed is the book that explains how this shift really works - and how business leaders can prepare and prosper.

Critic reviews

This book is ostensibly about subscription models, but it's ultimately about the future of business. In Subscribed, you'll learn from the masters of this business model and fundamentally change the way you think about your product, customers, growth, and talent -- no matter what industry you're in (Aaron Levie)
Tien Tzuo, who I was lucky enough to hire as my eleventh employee at Salesforce, has written the definitive playbook for anyone navigating the most important business model shift of our time. The subscription model is exploding everywhere, and nobody knows how to steer through this shift better than Tien (Marc Benioff)
Tien Tzuo is the godfather of the subscription economy and now he shares his unparalleled wisdom in this book. A must read for anyone who wants to have a breakout company. (Maynard Webb)

Unbelievably amazing!!!

Simply brilliant! A must read not just for any entrepreneur, Board Member and C-suite officer, but also every college graduate and business school professor.

Even before I finished reading this book - we added a small banner at the top of our home page asking all our visitors:

“Are you spending more than £1,500 on photography and videography a year? Then our subscription model may save you 50%”.

We are now gathering results and if feedback is positive, we’ll be implementing subscription model it ASAP.

Regardless of the result of our experiment - our next monthly strategic meeting is about Subscription Model for our business and I cannot wait to see Zoura team in action at the “Subscribed 2018 London” conference.

Thank you!

Persisted to the end

I kept waiting for the insights that were going to revolutionise my thinking about my small business. Or gain new insights into my previous corporate life. Somehow they eluded me. Perhaps the whole approach described in the book is better suited to much larger businesses than where my attention is currently focused. There was one key insight that I enjoyed and valued - about short cycle interactions between company and customer supporting an unrelenting focus on creating customer value. A helpful point that I will reflect on more in developing our marketing strategy. But that feels more like the subject for a slide deck than the chapter and verse presentation of the monster amount of factual information contained in this book. I hope that there will be readers of this book from large corporations who will find the content both inspiring and riveting. For me, it didn't work. My persistence left me simply relieved to be moving on.

Great playbook to enter the subscription economy

The book puts together some really good and well studied real life stories with insights and frameworks built upon those examples.

It goes beyond the typical business novela telling the story everyone wants to read about someone else's success. It makes a good efforts to extract some lessons that you can try in your own endeavors.

I think the framework is still in its infancy, but we have a very healthy toddler here.
