Publisher's summary

A corrupted power stirs from beyond the grave.

The Necromancer Queen will rise again.

Sent with a contingent of knights to reinforce the Thousand Lakes Kingdom against the aggression of the normally peaceable Soreshi, Anskar DeVantte learns that the Necromancer Queen Talia’s reach is longer than he could have believed.

Cajoled into procuring the components of the Armor of Divinity that will bring Talia back from the realm of the dead, Anskar must put her demands to one side when the real threat facing the kingdom is revealed.

For the Necromancer Queen is not the only shadow of evil reaching forth.

And Anskar’s growing sorcerous abilities may be all that stands in the breach between the world of Wiraya and a second cataclysmic demon war.

An immersive and ambitious new series from the Aurealis Award-winning author of A Crucible of Souls.

Hooked

The magic system and world are gaining clearly! A nice listen. Be aware some concepts may be offensive to some.

Bomb

Yo! I love your books! But super soft fluffy end. I’m nobody and don’t write so keep it up another check in the box.

This should be a movie as well!

Movies are never as good as the book, but there are a few series that, after I’ve read them, I’m so hungry for more that I’d like to experience it in every medium! Wow. Just… so good. This series
is brilliant. Such a conflicted main character but instead of being frustrated with him, I empathize and am cheering him on anyway!

drags a little, but excellent performance

i got frustrated with the main characters obsessive need to be told what to do and CONSTANT shaming of himself, despite seemingly being intelligent enough to figure out he doesn't need to.

This series is good!

Mitchell Hogan is one of my new favorite writers! This is series is good but I definitely prefer his first series that starts with A Crucible of Souls - it’s much more wholesome in a fantasy line.

Fantastic and unpredictable

Having gone through 3 books in record time for me…Michael Kramer brings the characters to life once again with an ever expanding and amazing story by Hogan.
100% recommend as well as the first 2 books.

Way better than the second.

I’ll stick to my guns here, I feel like creatively the three books so far feel like it was written in two books and the publisher decided to stretch it to 4. I would have been much happier with two large books with better conflict driven suspense, than have 4 books that have conflict with an extremely obvious solutions. Half the time the scenes with his “inner struggles” about faith and morality you think of what he’ll do before he does it, instead of just doing what needs to be done; the author dances around what obviously is going to happen by creating an unnecessary amount of “inner tensions”.

Most of the beginning of this book I could live without. The spin is that the kid is trying to be what he considers a better person, by dragging out scenarios and ignoring the solution that is extremely obvious. It was irritating at time to listen to the character think of how to solve his problem almost immediately, but thinks “no this is wrong, I don’t want to do what I know will work!” Then in an attempt to bring tension to the scene he’ll get all messed up and then does almost exactly what he thought of at the beginning of these scenes.

Meh I think this series was two books and the author tried to drag it out for whatever reason. I could have listened to more logic and less being a bitch about what the character needs to do rather than what this overwrought, silly religion that he already knows is corrupt. He constantly ignores good advice, which isn’t surprising, it could have been better if he was less conflicted and more logical.
