About this listen

An unforgettable coming of age novel for fans of 13 Reasons Why, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Fifteen-year-old Jeff wakes up on New Year’s Day to find himself in the hospital—specifically, in the psychiatric ward.

Despite the bandages on his wrists, he’s positive this is all some huge mistake. Jeff is perfectly fine, perfectly normal; not like the other kids in the hospital with him.

But over the course of the next forty-five days, Jeff begins to understand why he ended up here—and realizes he has more in common with the other kids than he thought.

“With a sprinkling of dark humor and a full measure of humanness, Suicide Notes is quirky, surprising, and a riveting read.” —Ellen Hopkins, author of The You I’ve Never Known and Love Lies Beneath

“Like the very best teen novels, Suicide Notes is both classic and edgy, timeless and provocative.” —Brent Hartinger, author of Geography Club

“Makes a powerful emotional impact.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

“Jeff’s wit and self-discovery are refreshing, poignant, and, at times, laugh-out-loud funny.” —School Library Journal

the book almost as exact same as my story the only thing that's different is I didn't do it I was about to that day

why I fell in love with the book

This is hilarious, and even though the outcome isn’t something I relate to, the entire story is relatable to any of those who have been in those types of situations. It was dark humor and I loved it! It made me feel so much better about the period of my life that was similar to Jeff’s.

One of the best stories ever!

I really like this book but it also triggers me but thats life, right? Everyone should see a doctor sometime in their life

Truth

The story started off very interesting and it is well read. About a third thru there are sex scenes that are very very descriptive. There should be a warning label like they do movies. It would be X. It is definitely not to be read by anyone under 18. If you are into reading stuff of that nature then it is a decent story. It doesn't need the graphics descriptions of the sexual acts to make the story work. Very disappointing.

Beware Pornagraphic Content

GRADE: F-

After attempting suicide, Jeff is hospitalized for 45 days.

Top 3 reasons not to read this book,

3) While reading SUICIDE NOTES, I felt as if Michael Thomas Ford must have said to himself, "I think this is how a Sarcastic Teenage Boy sounds" because Jeff's voice sounds nothing like any teenager I've known. Not only does the MC sound like a Character instead of a person, he doesn't come across as depressed.

2) These days, psych hospitalizations for suicide attempts are lucky to get a week, 45 days would be wonderful, but insurances only pay for basic stabilization. Only the very wealthy could afford a 28 day treatment program.

1) What would have been considered rape for a girl is NOT a sexual encounter for a boy. It's RAPE.

Extremely problematic

I hate how the book handled the SA and used it as a cheap form of character development. Also no teenage boy sounds like this....? The amount of times Cat poop was mentioned like it was supposed to be hilarious was just...ew. I've never cringed so hard. The only good thing was Jeff's interactions with his sister and how genuine they seemed. other then that I would willingly shoot myself into orbit then listen to this ever again.

What the f**k
