Story
Celebrating her forty-fifth birthday at her local pub, popular podcaster Alix Summer crosses paths with an unassuming woman called Josie Fair. Josie, it turns out, is also celebrating her forty-fifth birthday. They are, in fact, birthday twins. A few days later, Alix and Josie bump into each other again, this time outside Alix’s children’s school. Josie has been listening to Alix’s podcasts and thinks she might be an interesting subject for her series. She is, she tells Alix, on the cusp of great changes in her life.

In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. Timeless, simple, yet ingenious
The tips within it are timeless, simple, yet ingenious. They can be applied to personal and professional relationships, and it really opened my eyes to understanding human psychology in a relatable way. It is full of real-world examples illustrating each point in an interesting way so the book doesn’t feel like a bunch of Do This Because I Said So principles. I found myself highlighting dozens of lines and re-listen chapters.

Improved my life and improves my relationships
This book is one of the most personally influential books I've ever listen. It has made me a better boss, a better employee, a better husband, father, son, sibling, and friend. It has improved my life and improves my relationships across the board.

Where's the PDF!?
I've read the original and have it on audible as well. This is a terrific summary and a great refresher on the original material. In fact, it's good enough to stand on its own. I've already listened to this summary 5 times and each time I realize that I'm applying the principles in the book much more, without even thinking about it. It's starting to become natural and my relationships with people are MUCH better than they were even 3 months ago.
I'm finding that good relationships with other people are what we really want in life. Would we want all the stuff we want if there wasn't anyone else to do it with or share it with? Applying the principles taught in this book will make people REALLY look forward to seeing you and wanting to be around you. Attentive listening and asking good questions will truly make people love you. GET THIS BOOK.
BUT!!! Where's the PDF? At the end of the book, he says there's a 2 page PDF summary of the principles that should be in the library with the book. But it's not there and I'd really like to have it. Please post it Top Tier Summaries!!!
Side note: I went to school with an Erik Vestal in Utah and I wonder if the narrator is the same guy. Hmmm

I guess there is nothing new under the sun!
I am doing research and supplemental listening to support my emotional intelligence coaching practice and it was recommended that I listen to this book. Although the discovery (or, should I say resurgence) of the EI field has just gained momentum over the past few years, this decades-old book was espousing many of the same principles. I guess there is nothing new under the sun!

He refers to what men and women want
Some stuff was dated in the book. Particularly in his section on having a good marriage. How he refers to what men and women want seems funny looked at through the lens of today, but the core principles are stellar. Put the effort into your marriage, as much effort as you do to your work.

Helped me to see myself
I spend a lot of time with people that vary in age. As I listen to this book the techniques here day by day helped me to see myself in my interactions with them. We as a society are a verity of people. Each of us affected by our influences before we meet each other.

Give it as a gift to others
Whenever I meet someone who seems bright, has a joy for life, has all the ingredients for success ... but they're a crashing bore and/or they're just plain irritating ... I give them this book. I really and truly think that giving away this book can make a positive difference for the world. All of my kids, nieces, nephews, grand-cousins, etc, received this book upon their high school graduation. Simply put, it's one of the most powerful books ever drafted. Don't just buy it for yourself. Give it as a gift to others.
