About this listen

Some conspiracy theories turn out to be true.

FBI profiler Victor Loshak works a brutal murder case in Watertown, New York - a woman found strangled in her basement, her face gone purple and baggy.

But as he sifts through the crime scene details, his mind keeps drifting back to Kansas City, his last job. The human trafficking case there ended in something of a cliffhanger, and it's a loose end that everyone else in law enforcement seems in no hurry to tie up.

The truth is out there. Always just out of reach.

Loshak finds himself changed by the events that transpired in Missouri. His worldview shifted. His priorities shuffled. He reaches out to the people close to him, hoping to make major changes in his personal life.

But they are watching.

When Loshak pursues leads relating to Kansas City, however, the warnings start. They are watching him. Seem to know everything about him. If he keeps working the human trafficking case, everything - and everyone - he cares about will be in jeopardy.

Justice bears a heavy cost. How high of a price will you pay?

The shape of a man's life is largely defined by what passions he pursues, Loshak decides. Now he will choose what that means for him.

While the Victor Loshak novels can be listened toin any order, we recommend listening tothis short after having listened to the earlier audiobooks in the series. Here is the full list of Loshak books in chronological order:

farther into darkness

do you like extremely dark subject matter? do you believe in conspiracy theories? you will after you read this. somehow these authors manage to make this disturbing world digestible without trivializing it.

I've said this before, but I love Loshak. he's a good hero. he's like a real dude but a really good dude. he's not perfect, but he does the things we hope someone in his shoes would do, and we believe in him. this is a compelling chapter in his character development, and a deepening of the story we all got invested in at the beginning of this series. will he take the warning, or dive head first into the darkness? I like the narrator, even though I was a fan of the authors reading their books. five stars, can't wait to see where this goes.

Buy it!

This team just works so well together! The story is short (but not too short) and keeps things moving. I find myself just absorbing some of their descriptions to hold onto later.

Suspicions Confirmed.

Still reeling from the investigation in Kansas City, MO Victor Loshak is at home waiting for his wife to arrive. But the case is still eating at his mind. Not being about to sit and work on the KC case like he wants to, Loshak starts working on a local murder case. Loshak works along side of the local detective. Teaching him techniques to use in future investigations.

This is a wonderful novella to bridge between cases. It's also keeps Loshak fans happy and gives a glimpse into what is coming next. Curt Bonnem does a great job bringing these characters to life.

Loshak's back and is better than ever!

Take Warning seems to have taken a life of its own in the Victor Loshak saga. While the previous stories provided a sense of Vic being in control and his being able to predict who is the bad guy. This episode is filled with instances of conspiracy, intrigue, betrayal, and some very unexpected action. Curt Bonnem’s narration grabbed my interest and brought each character to life.

It's, like, something you should listen to

During time of quarantine, my judgement became questionable on everything from have extensive conversations with my dog to accepting cool ranch Doritos as an acceptable breakfast staple. However, on day 84, I redeemed myself by listening to Take Warning. A story with topics that not only would be filtered by Amazon's filter but instills great shame onto me as they genuinely entertain me.
