Publisher's summary

Here I am, surrounded by heiresses without so much as a murmur from my heart

MR FITZWILLIAM DARCY'S FAMILY has decided it is time for him to select a wife and marry. To that end, Pemberley is suddenly inundated with eligible young ladies vying for his time and attention. Disinterested in the notion, Mr Darcy’s attention is on his myriad other troubles. He has a London journalist whose attention has suddenly has turned towards him with unsavoury and false rumours, and lives with a wounded Colonel Fitzwilliam whose sanity has been called into question. To add to that he finds himself surprisingly and suddenly captivated by one fine-eyed young lady who is visiting Pemberley.

ELIZABETH BENNET HAS NO INTEREST IN MARRYING—ever. Hard life lessons have taught her that she can only rely upon herself. To that end, she earns a tidy sum as the secret author of a popular gossip column in a London paper, Mr Pennywithers Reports—and Mr Pennywithers has been tasked with learning the truth about the enigmatic Fitzwilliam Darcy. An unexpected invitation to go to Pemberley provides her with just the opportunity she needs…provided she can keep her true identity concealed.

IT'S NO BED OF ROSES—one bachelor is up against surprising alliances, a bevy of mean girls, rumours, gossip and a multitude of hidden agendas. Can it all be untangled in time for true love to prevail or will scandal defeat them all?

Excellent writing, Superb narration!

I’m a big fan of P&P variations. There are many good and mediocre ones out there, but this book ascends to the next level! Julie Cooper entices the reader with tidbits of Elizabeth’s past yet times the reveal masterfully. The romance is alive and well, but on the outer limits of still being considered clean romance. Enough angst for the dramatic element without overdoing it. Bravo, Julie Cooper, and bravo, Arthur Rowan! An expert narration! I was transported back in time.

Elizabeth is a secret writer

This was a different book altogether. Elizabeth and Darcy meet at Pemberley. She as an unknown guest. He as a host.

Lost sleep listening to this book!!!

I enjoyed this book thoroughly. I really enjoy the books more when we also get to listen to Darcy's perspective especially when he is so enamored with Elizabeth. This was so well written and such a different story. I have listened to it twice in the span of a few weeks. I highly recommend it.

Brilliant!

Such a wonderful book! I loved all the dialogue between ODC! I love a smart and witty Elizabeth and Mrs Cooper created such with Elizabeth being an undercover reporter.

There isn't too much angst. Just be sure to allot adequate time because you won't want to put it down!

If you get the audible, Arthur Rowan did a fantastic job! His Darcy voice is on point. He should do more JAFF.

Darcy falls for Elizabeth as she sees only the possibility of a friend

What do you get when you combine a talented gossip writer with someone out to smudge Darcy‘s name and his sister who wants to save him? You get a house party where ladies start competing for some uninterrupted time with Darcy. Games, hunts, spiked lemonade, Lady Catherine and more all have their turn at causing mischief. Elizabeth and Darcy have some wonderful page time together. I loved the romance between Col Fitzwilliam and Sarah (friend of Georgiana and Elizabeth). Add Arthur Rowan to the audiobook and he takes this fun book up another notch. I hope that he will consider doing more JAFF audiobooks in the future. Thank you Julie Cooper for another wonderful story.

Delicious

Great storytelling from both writer and narrator. The character driven plot as smart and well paced. The narrator was pleasant and engaging.

Fabulous Story & Narrator

First, the reader, Arthur Rowan, is a sexy-sounding Darcy. His female characters are pretty good, too. A great Variation with more seen of Anne and her mother, a wounded but romantic Col Fitzwilliam who has his own love interest, a better Bingley, a worse Caroline Bingley, very little from Collins or the other Bennets. And, lots of scenes - terrific scenes and great dialogue - between Darcy and Elizabeth. Very well written story.

Loved it

Julie Cooper’s story + Arthur Rowan’s voice = a swoon worthy Mr Darcy. I really enjoyed reading the book, but the audio book enhanced my enjoyment.

The Bachelor

This book (and now the audiobook) has become one of my favorites, and I plan to re-listen to it multiple times. Arthur Rowan did a great job of narrating. He is one of the best. Darcy and Elizabeth meet early in the story and he delivers his insult soon after. She reacts without rancor and doesn’t dwell on it. I really loved Richard and Sarah’s part in the story. In Sarah, Julie Cooper has created an entertaining recurring “bluestocking-ish” character. Also, the backstory for Bingley and Darcy’s friendship is fresh and weaves well into the Darcy family history. Highly recommend this one!
