About this listen
You'll love Anne Brown and the Colebridge Community! In The Basement Quilt, a novel by Ann Hazelwood, you'll get to know the family and friends of Anne Brown, a plucky florist whose daily ups and downs will seem so familiar, you'll identify with her right away.
Anne decides to learn to quilt to help her aunt, and in the process, learns family secrets. Then she uncovers a mysterious presence in her mother's basement, or does she? Anne learns about love, too, in various forms. She and the members of the Colebridge community go through some big life changes. Are their decisions wise or does trouble lie ahead? The Basement Quilt is not just the title of this first novel in a series; the basement quilt itself is a character. You'll want to meet other quilt 'characters' throughout the series.

Story
Early in the Great War, men left Britain’s factories in droves to enlist. Struggling to keep up production, arsenals hired women to build the weapons the military urgently needed. “Be the Girl Behind the Man Behind the Gun,” the recruitment posters beckoned. Thousands of women—cooks, maids, shopgirls, and housewives—answered their nation’s call. These “munitionettes” worked grueling shifts often seven days a week, handling TNT and other explosives with little protective gear.

Story
Charlotte has everything in life that she ever could have hoped for: a doting, artistic husband, a small-but-thriving flower shop, and her sweet, smart five-year-old daughter, Daisy. Her relationship with her mother might be strained, but the distance between them helps. And her younger brother Rocco may have horrible taste in women, but when he introduces his new girlfriend to Charlotte and her family, they are cautiously optimistic that she could be The One. Daisy seems to love Ruth, and she can’t be any worse than the klepto Rocco brought home the last time.

Hurrrrah. Terrific book
While the books off a tad slow, keep listening. Easy to see this will be my favorite cozy quilt mystery series.
Well written with enjoyable characters who are just the right mix.
On a scale of 1 to 10, 9.5 for sure.

good story
I enjoy the story but much of the time it felt like it it was being read by a computer generated voice rather than a person. It made it difficult to listen to at times.

Great story line
I totally loved the story line in this book and I'm really looking forward to the next in the series. Being an avid quilter, i could relate to the characters. I knew long before they did that it was Grandmother and, later on Aunt Marie, helping them out. The reason for the poor performance rating was because it didn't sound natural. I put more annimation into the stories I read to my 5th graders. I'm hoping they get better with more practice. Also, some words and phrases need to be shelved, i.e. "pretty" as in "pretty good" and "Kodak moment".

Missed the mark
The plot has potential but the writing was basic with no character development. I only finished this because it is for a book club. I’ll refrain from spoilers but the quality of writing, editing and narrating was very disappointing. I won’t read any more of this series.

Too unbelievable
The story was just too unbelievable. The wording sounded fake - normal conversation just doesn't carry that way. I only finished the story because I paid for it. I couldn't 'buy into it' and it did not hold my attention. Also, the audio sounded hollow as if the reader, who read too fast, was in a large room where everything echoed. I'm sorry but this just was not a good read for me, at all. And hearing, '...I could care less...' - someone didn't pay attention during the editing process!

Ho hum
Poorly written very juvenile and story for a child in the 1950’s. Performance was stilted and silly! NOT a Kodak moment! I finished this because I spent my credit and didn’t want to waste.
