About this listen

Crime reporter Eve Singer's career is on the downward slope when a spate of bizarre murders - each carefully orchestrated and advertised like performance art - begin in her territory. Covering these very public crimes revives her byline, and when the killer contacts Eve to discuss her coverage of his crimes, she is suddenly on the inside of the biggest murder investigation of the decade. But as the killer becomes increasingly obsessed with her, Eve realizes there's a thin line between inside information and becoming an accomplice to murder - possibly her own. A seamlessly-plotted thriller that will keep listeners breathless until the very end, The Beautiful Dead cements Belinda Bauer's reputation as a master of heart-stopping suspense.

Fabulous story

According to Physics, big objects need a lot of initial energy to get going. This is a big object. I do appreciate how Bauer gives each character depth enough to stick to me long after the last scene. And the end is worth every minute. Terrific writing and a lot of gruesome details, which I usually dislike but can grit my teeth through with Bauer.

Intriguing, chilling and with great comedic timing

I really enjoy Belinda's works, partially because of the humour in the books that the narrator never fails to deliver. There were times when I was anxious or scared for the characters, but also other times when I laughed out loud at the ridiculousness of the dialogues. Really enjoyed the listening experience.

Poor outing by great author

I usually treasure a Belinda Bauer read but this fell way short. Humor and plotting just didn’t work. Recommend Rubbernecker, Exit or Snap as better outings.

What is this

I was boring. Not even good background noise. Waste of time trying it out. Returned.

Gonna need a refund

I couldn’t finish this one. I generally like this author, but this is really really cheesy writing. I don’t know what happened. The overwrought narration just emphasizes the effect. Everything scenario is taken to an absurd extreme and it’s not effectively funny or compelling. It just falls flat. I’m sending it back.
