About this listen

Lily is back from Australia for the first time in seven years to spend Christmas at her mum’s house in a small, gossipy English village. To her surprise, she returns to find that her mother is dating the man next door, who also happens to be the father of her ex-boyfriend Tom. Tom, who broke Lily’s heart all those years ago. Tom, the real reason Lily fled to the other side of the world and stayed there. Tom, who is also home for Christmas and right there, next door.

In what is shaping up to be the worst Christmas ever, somehow Lily and Tom have to try to get along and play happy families, but living with the man who she is clearly not over is proving to be difficult, and tensions are high. Add in some drunken caroling, a reindeer bite, a potent Christmas pudding and some meddling parents and Lily’s trip home will turn her entire life upside down.

Overall an Excellent Story with Some Reservations

But for a couple of things, this would've been a five star story . . . the actual story of Lily and Tom is the BEST. What is off putting to me is the author's need to mix up Christmas with witches and other pagan things that have nothing to do with Christmas. I don't find it funny or cute. I think its an attempt to be PC and unnecessary. Other than that, I love all the characters in this quirky, light-hearted story of Lily, coming home to England to surprise her mum for Christmas, only to run in to Tom, her high school sweetheart (now a doctor) before she even gets in to her mother's house. A serious, yet roll-in-the-floor funny story of two young people, who have never forgotten their first love, or ever found another who measured up, but never had the courage to face up to their own insecurities, make for one of the best Christmas stories ever. Lily's mum and Tom's dad seem to have ruined their adult children's Christmas by announcing that they are now in love with one another (yuck 😂) and are co-habiting at Lily's mum's place, therefore throwing Tom and Lily together at Tom's dad's house. Don't miss this one as Tom and Lily navigate the land mines ahead of them, and have to learn how to relate to the adult versions of themselves and one another.

Loved it!

I don’t usually read/listen to romance novels. But this was lovely. Interesting characters, sweet and entertains story line . This managed to put me in a good mood. Narration was spot on and added to the story.

A Delightful Holiday RomCom

This could easily be a Hallmark Christmas movie (though I guess those are rarely Australia/England based) and was the perfect listen for a couple of cozy nights putting together a jigsaw puzzle. Small town? Check. Childhood sweetheart? Check. Job opportunity back at home? Check. Misunderstandings and mix-ups? Check. Mishap with a reindeer? Check. Happily ever after? I’m sure you know the answer.

Makes me believe in love again

I loved it❣ It was a sweet and intimate story without a lot of character dialog you had to keep up with. Lovely story to hear on my lonely Christmas Eve.

Very cute

Entertaining and light. This book was great. It made me laugh (out loud) several times. I loved the narrator's accent as well.

poignant, romantic

Poignant story of loss and re=connection. Funny moments but not a typical silly romance. Though short, it had some emotional depth that made the ending satisfying.
