About this listen

When a prophesy brings war to the Land of the Black Hills, Keeley Smythe must join forces with a clan of mountain warriors who are really centaurs in a thrilling new fantasy romance series from New York Times best-selling author G.A. Aiken.

The Old King Is Dead

With the demise of the Old King, there's a prophesy that a queen will ascend to the throne of the Black Hills. Bad news for the king's sons, who are prepared to defend their birthright against all comers. But for blacksmith Keeley Smythe, war is great for business. Until it looks like the chosen queen will be Beatrix, her younger sister. Now it's all Keeley can do to protect her family from the enraged royals.

Luckily, Keeley doesn't have to fight alone. Because thundering to her aid comes a clan of kilt-wearing mountain warriors called the Amichai. Not the most socially adept group, but soldiers have never bothered Keeley, and rough, gruff Caid, actually seems to respect her. A good thing because the fierce warrior will be by her side for a much longer ride than any prophesy ever envisioned.

I really enjoyed this book and I didn't want it to end. There were all of the usual sword and sorcery tropes but they were twisted into something much more interesting. I can't wait for the next book.

What a great start to a new, action packed, laugh out loud series! I'll be anxiously waiting for the next book!

Outstanding new series!

Awesome characters, great story, but barely a dash of romance and the main male interest was possibly the least interesting character...but another great entry in the Aikenverse!

Less Romance, More Fantasy Epic

G.A. Aiken's books always hit the spot! I needed thos to recover from Suzanne Wright's "Shiver" which was a big disappointment...And she's a great writer!! But thanks to G.A. Aiken's strong female character...that wimpy female character from Shiver was wiped out of my mind...The guys in this book or waaaay better then Blake the Jerk from shiver..who was such a let down...this book actually have likable men character...who are awesome! I sooo can't wait for the next book in this series...definitely worth the credit or money that you pay for it with

So needed this book!

I read the book and loved it. Then I listened to it. So much better. I could better keep track of the characters and understood the emotions more deeply.

Narrator makes the book.

Aiken does it again. Writing complex women handling everyday and extraordinary matters with death, violence, destruction of old patterns and compassion. Aiken really grasps all sides of the goddess, not just the love and light stuff.;)

Refreshing and entertaining

I didn't have much hope for this book when i downloaded it. Just took a chance, and it paid off. Great book. I gave it a max rating and that does not occur often. I want high rating to truly reflect my enjoyment of the that particular audio experience.

Pleasant surprise

Well, I just finished listening to The Blacksmith Queen and I adored it! I have been sick for the last four days and every coherent moment that I had, I spent listening to this audiobook. I loved how the whole world that was created was presented to us without having it slow down the flow of the book. One thing that I always love about G.A. Aiken (Shelly Laureston) is that the dialogue makes me laugh out loud. The characters are entertaining and unique. This is the start of a wonderful series and I cannot wait to see how the Scarred Earth Saga develops. The only sad thing is having to wait for book 2. At least I have the next Badger Chronicles novel to look forward too!!

Great dialogue and excellent story development
