About this listen

With its breathtaking vistas and down-to-earth people, Thunder Point is the perfect place for FBI agent Laine Carrington to recuperate from a gunshot wound and contemplate her future. The locals embraced Laine as one of their own after she risked her life to save a young girl from a dangerous cult. Knowing her wounds go beyond the physical, Laine hopes she'll fit in for a while and find her true self in a town that feels safe. She may even learn to open her heart to others, something an undercover agent has little time to indulge. Eric Gentry is also new to Thunder Point. Although he's a man with a dark past, he's determined to put down roots and get to know the daughter he only recently discovered. When Laine and Eric meet, their attraction is obvious to everyone. But while the law enforcement agent and the reformed criminal want to make things work, their differences may run too deep; unless they take a chance on each other and find that deep and mysterious bond that belongs to those who choose love over fear.

I would prefer the sex scenes weren’t so graphic. Otherwise, I really liked the story.

Great story

Would you listen to The Chance again? Why?

Absolutely! Robyn Carr is great at developing characters and adding depth to every story. I would read any of her books a second and third time!

What other book might you compare The Chance to and why?

Any of the titles from the Virgin River series. Although her stories always end up in a nice, neat little package at the end (and isn't that what romance is all about anyway), it is usually a long, and realistic road to reach that point. I think this is part of the reason readers can easily identify with her characters.

What about Therese Plummer’s performance did you like?

As an avid audiobook listener, I've come to realize that not just anybody can bring a book to life. Therese Plummer has the perfect tone of voice that makes it easy to listen to.

Any additional comments?

If you're not familiar with Robyn Carr's writing, try another one. She's an author that I will automatically read without knowing anything about the book. Her stories have a lot of substance without all the trash.

Love this author and series!

If you could sum up The Chance in three words, what would they be?

I LOVE IT

Who was your favorite character and why?

ERIC~ he says it through the entire book.. Second chances do come our way.. And the Chance we take, is costly at times, and we much pay the price for what ever do we do in life, but it teaches us, we hope not to make the same mistakes again and we learn from them.. If you read this book.. Listen to what the Judge tells him ( Eric) when he is a teenager about the cost of being and doing wrong, and what is can cost you being at the wrong place and the wrong time..when you know better.. Eric was and it cost him time.....but the lesson here is what the judge says.... I'ts really good..

What does Therese Plummer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Therese Plummer is an excellent reader of Robyn's Books. Especially those from the Thunderpoint Series. She knows just how to bring everything to life with each charater.. she don't just read, she put's emotion, and herself into these books.. I have to say she is about the best when is comes to anything you wanted to bring forth in a book.. love it Way to Go.. Ms. Plummer.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, when Lane is helping her father, whom she has been estranged from because of an arrgurment at Christmas time.. But the times she spends with him brings so much to light.

Any additional comments?

Once again Robyn Carr has a hit.. I have been waiting what seems like a year for anything from the Thunderpoint Series.. I love the town, (to bad I can't move there) and the personality she's given her new characters Lane and Eric is great,, They have one thing in common..which you will find out by reading the book.. it's good...
Robyn Carr gives us detailed scenes about who and what all Thunderpoint resident are and look like.... so that when we close our eyes you see them.. Her description of everyone is and always has been so articulated that I feel like I would know them if I went into town if it existed..
In this book, she brings Lane, the Hero FBI Operative who filtrated the cult near Thunderpoint and was shot saving them all but one, in the last of the series. Another great book.. She moved to Thunderpoint to heal, that arm. what was shot and operated on and she meets the gorgeous Eric, who can't get enough of her from day one.. He loves her sass and straight forwardness and wonders if he would ever have a chance of her looking his way.. But don't count Lane out.. she is a looker alright, and looking herself.. She loves the town and stays for a while to just relax and heal.. Things she loves is good people, her family, and loves to cook. but at the same time, she is looking for someone to help her get over what she went through with the rescue..In other words the cold nights and maybe to keep her warm as well.. Then She meets Eric, who we all know he is the x boyfriend of Max's (the sheriff's) wife. And they have a 16 year daughter. He came to TP to help her through college. Or at least choose one. He loves his daughter but would not mind having Lane near him. either for dinner or just kiss her once.. He is so smitten by her and she him.. . But he would never be that brazen. But Lane is not shy and goes after what ever she wants.. and Eric looks good to her.. The one liners they have in this is amazing.. Lane is one great addition to Thunderpoint. .
. Not a small town girl.. she waits.. and finally just goes after him saying.. If you can't ask me out.. I will do it. Eric has and owns a Garage, he and Lane just become a hot couple. They adore and compliment each other so.. But trouble is always somewhere.. But it's not where you think.. It's in Lane's family. she has a twin brother who took after Daddy, and is a doctor, but because she is FBI Daddy think she is blue collar worker and just missed the mark. and he don't appreciate what she does and who she saves.. But Eric, who is always got her back, and always there to help her through anything, listens and helps her along the way..
Also each and every one of our other TP characters from the start, we are brought up to speed with what is going on with them.. I love it when a author keeps us updated in the series.. WE learn some things about who we always wondered about..like out sexy Realtor who is always looking at every man.. Not saying.. gotta read about her.. It's good.. I so enjoyed this book, planning on buying the book and reading this time.. The Thunder Point Series has been enjoyable from day one.. It never disappoints and can't wait for the next one to arrive. Who doesn't want to live in Thunder Point.. where everyone is welcomed and everyone;s problems are as big as our own.... It just goes to show you how we can deal with them and how everything is approached in different ways.. Give you room to think.. . Again, the book is worth what ever you have to do to enjoy it. And oh by the way.. Some great , great Hot Bedroom scenes in this one.. Reminds me of the Cooper and Sara when they met.. And it's Hot.. I will say that.. .

WELCOME BACK TO THUNDER POINT

Would you listen to The Chance again? Why?
Probably not. Robyn Carr has at least 3 book series that are all written using the same formula. They all involve a quaint little town filled with people who are super neighborly and is so wonderful to live in that even nomads don't want to leave. The people strongly believe in second chances and all of the characters are great communicators -even the men. Then some poor worn down soul happens along and for all the reasons previously mentioned decides to stay and ends up falling in love..

The first series I read by Robyn Carr is Virgin River. I loved that series, and I did reread a couple of those books. The novelty has worn off now and I didn't really connect with The Chance on a level deep enough to make me want to read it again.

What does Therese Plummer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I will never completely bash a narrators performance, but I will admit that I don't really care for Therese Plummers narrations. It's a matter of personal preference, but she over enunciates her words. She rolls every "r" and crosses every "t". She should lighten up a bit.

Other than that she's an excellent narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Wanted to? No, but I probably could've.

Predictable

This book ended leaving a lot of unfinished stories. I one thing I don’t like is that the book climax in the last 2 minutes of the book. All of Carrs books seem to be that way only this one left me wondering did I miss something I’m kinda disappointed. I’m reluctant to go to the next book but here I go...

Wait what?.....
