About this listen

In Los Angeles in 1988, a 16-year-old girl disappeared from her home and was later found dead of a gunshot wound to the chest. The death appeared at first to be a suicide, but some of the evidence contradicted that scenario, and detectives came to believe this was in fact a murder. Despite a by-the-book investigation, no one was ever charged.

Now Detective Harry Bosch is back with the LAPD with the sole mission of closing unsolved cases, and this girl's death is the first he's given. A DNA match makes the case very much alive again, and it turns out to be anything but cold. The ripples from this death have destroyed at least two other lives, and everywhere he probes, Bosch finds hot grief, hot rage, and a bottomless well of betrayal and malice.

And it's not just the girl's family and friends whose lives Bosch is stirring up afresh. With each new development, Harry Bosch finds increasing resistance from within the police force itself. Old enemies are close at hand. Even as he pushes relentlessly to find the truth, Bosch has to wonder if this assignment was intended to be his last. Digging up the past may heal old wounds, or it may expose new, searing ones.

From the mind of the man GQ has called "the best mystery writer in the world", The Closers is a masterpiece of thriller writing that is as sharp and immediate as the greatest fiction.

Critic reviews

"In Connelly/Bosch's world, character, context, and procedure are what count, and once again the author proves a master at all....Connelly comes as close as anyone to being today's Dostoyevsky of crime literature, and this is one of his finest novels to date." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Harry sticks to his knitting and delivers a sharp, straightforward police procedural." ( The New York Times)

Predictable, but a MUST read...

I have read all the Bosch books by Connelly and although I had this one figured out early on, it was still a great addition to the series!I love Harry and it didn't really matter that I guessed the outcome. Throughout the extensive Bosch series, Harry has matured as a character, adding new dimension with every title. Len Cariou is a tremendous. No one else should ever read for Bosch. If you're a Bosch fan, this is a must read... if you're new to the Bosch series, I recommend going back to the early novels and take them chronologically... get them all...there is not a "dog" among them!

Harry Is Back On the Job!

Go get 'em Harry. I have almost all of the Bosch series and some I have enjoyed some more than others. This one was just a delight. Harry out and about working the clues, following the leads, confusing his superiors and sometimes his partner. The narration was great and the jazz in between chapters gives these books the flavor a modern day Mike Hammer.

Good Story - great narration

I love almost all ov Michael Connelly's books. Parts of this story seemed to drag on, but it was a real good listen.

Best Yet

I have read, "heard" all the Harry Bosch books so far and this is the best. The narrator was excellent; the story kept going all the way. This is better than most of the books on the Audible best seller list. I can only say, ?Do it!?

The Closer

This was a very good book. I am going to look for more Michael Connelley books with this main character.

One of the better Harry Bosch stories

I've read all of Michael Connelly's books and enjoy the non-Bosch ("The Poet", "Chasing the Dime") books best. But that doesn't mean that these aren't good. Harry is aging realistically, if not gracefully, but he isn't ready to be turned out to pasture. His return to the LAPD after three years of retirement lands him in the "open/unsolved" unit, and he investigates a cold case involving spoiled teens, racial disharmony, grieving parents, insider coverups and a young girl's diary. The reader does a competent, comfortable job.

Hey, It's Connelly

Like all of Connelly's work, it's about the ride and not the destination. You should know the latter if you've read (listened) to him before. Still, pretty good writing, good narration, and being an LA boy, fun references. Good beach or vacation book.

I love the Bosch series

I also love the Lincoln lawyer series, at least book 1-4, haven't read book 5 yet. I feel every Bosch book there is some different twist and/or the author would change the setup so you don't feel like its repeating a pattern. There's always surprises and I would pay attention to every detail describe just because this little benign detail just might be the clue to the final reveal. 12 hours of story can last and feel like a 24 hours story because of it. #awesome #tagsgiving #sweepstakes
