Publisher's summary

After a mix-up at the fertility clinic, two couples are forever changed when their lives suddenly collide.

Retrieval

That was all it took for me to know Elisabeth was my soul mate. Five years, countless infertility treatments, and the loss of our only son. That was what it took for me to lose her. One phone call, a mix-up at the lab, and a little girl neither of us knew existed. That was the hell it took to bring her back to me. And this time, I wasn’t letting go.This is the story of how I took back what had always been mine. The retrieval of my wife and my family.

Transfer

I married a monster. What started out as romance ended in hell. My sole job in life was to protect our daughter. Until a police officer informed me of a mix-up at the lab. My little girl was the only thing keeping me alive. And I didn’t even know if she was mine. This is the story of how I escaped the man who thought he owned me.The transfer of my life and my family.

Great narration

This was an intense story and the three narrators made it feel like I was actually watching it. Their voices matched the characters and gave it life. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t stop listening.

Well written and delivered!

Roman and Elisabeth’s story is heartbreaking and compelling, where Claire and Walt are the literal opposite- it’s dirty, harsh, and abusive. Parts of this duet weren’t easy to listen to, but the narrators acted it out so well. I was brought to tears multiple times! Amazing performance, it was delivered perfectly.

Gripping, emotional, and all consuming duet!

I listened to The Retrieval Duet by Aly Martinez and was totally consumed with the story. It was emotional, angst-filled and captivating from the very first words to the last! I could not stop listening! The narrators, Andi Arndt, Maxine Mitchell and Jason Carpenter, were absolutely amazing! This audio contains the complete duet, which includes Retrieval and Transfer, and I loved having both books at one time!

First and foremost, I have to say you need to go in without any spoilers. This story just has to be experienced. We meet Roman and Elisabeth and see what it means to love strong and deeply, even amidst so much loss and pain. Then one phone call provides hope, if they are not afraid to reach out for it.

Then there is Clare fighting to protect the only thing that matters, her daughter. She may live with a monster, but she is determined to be free and may finally have someone to help her. But one phone call may devastate all that matters to her. I loved the characters and even when their journey broke my heart, I continued to devour this story.

I was not sure how much more my heart could take while listening to The Retrieval Duet by Aly Martinez. It was emotional, angst-fill, and full of twists and turns. It was such a gripping story and one I highly recommend.

Happy listening!

interesting

My review: ☆☆☆☆

The retrieval duet by Aly Martinez with the first book that I've ever read by her. The first book of the story retrieval, had me from the beginning! It was capturing me with all of its twists and turns and heart wrenching emotions from page one. I loved the story and the interaction between the characters. I could not wait for book two when the first was over. I felt the second book's story was lacking a bit. Some of the ways the characters started to interact really frustrated me and I think that took away from the story. By the end of book two I was definitely left wanting more in terms of character development and storyline. Overall I would recommend this book, the audio was enjoyable and I'm looking forward to reading more of Aly Martinez.

Unforgettably haunting ...

It starts with the unexpected, dives into the heartbreaking and finds it's way to inspiring. Martinez brings the tale of two mothers, the mistake that connects them and the drama that shadows their heartbreak. The Retrieval Duet is the voice of a mother's love and the sacrifices she'll make to protect that most precious of gifts. Two women learn about themselves and what it means to love unconditionally. Even as the world around them is falling apart. I held my breath, lost my heart and hoped for a resolution. Unforgettably haunting, unconventional story of love.

Be prepared for ALL THE FEELS!!!!

I was not ready. I don't know why I wasn't; I should've been considering that the topic is about infertility and marriage and whenever those are discussed, books tend to delve into deep deep waters. But I was NOT READY! From the agony of infertility and loss and the toll it can take on even the healthiest, most loving relationships (the angle of Retrieval), to the damage of emotional, physical, and mental abuse (one of the major plot points in Transfer) - I was able to experience emotions that I had not before fathomed and that's all because of the masterful way Aly Martinez penned the books AND the amazing talent of the narrators. There were so many moments that I had tears streaming down my face as I read, but there were also moments when my cheeks hurt from smiling so hard, and when I had to fan myself from the sizzle. Both books featured the type of hero that I love the most: Heath and Roman were intensely determined to have their women. There is nothing like a man that LOVES HARD and FIERCELY, that is loyal and dedicated to his woman and his family, and that is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve and maintain "happy life, happy wife" status. I think I enjoyed the duet even better listening to it as opposed to reading it - it was just that much easier to visualize and consume the story and to handle them back to back. The experience was cleansing and cathartic and I can't wait to read more from this author. 4.75 out of 5 wine glasses.

SUSPENSEFUL DUET

Aly Martinez never disappoints. This story was suspenseful from the first page in book one to the last page in book 2. Roman was determined to win back the only love that he would ever have. He was determined to win her back but more so after the chilling news that both he and Elisabeth received. There life was getting ready to take twists and turns that was unimaginable.

Unlike Roman and Elisabeth, Claire and Walt are very different and sad. Life is not what Claire expected and things really take a turn when doors are opened and secrets continue to walk through. Claire has no one to depend on but soon she will learn who her real family is. She has to protect herself and someone who is beyond special.

Again...Aly never disappoints!! I loved this story and will listen to it over and over again. The narrators did a good job bringing these characters to life. I have heard many books by Andi Arndt and I am new to Maxine and Jason. I can't wait to hear more from them.

Emotional... riviting!

I can’t… this duet… oh my lanta… this audiobook filled my heart with love and happiness only to break it and stomp on it and set it on fire. Really Aly Martinez is an amazing author. She’s one of the most thought-provoking authors I’ve ever read and/or listened to. Martinez takes some of the most heartbreaking fears of a woman and/or man… a couple. I mean seriously, she broke my heart a bit. I could NOT stop listening to this book no matter how painful the story was.

This was a riveting story. The narrators went between with Andi Arndt, Jason Carpenter, and Maxine Mitchel. Maxine Mitchell is a fantastic narrator. She’s thorough and thought-provoking. I’ll be honest that I’m a HUGE fan of Andi Arndt. I wasn’t surprised with her amazingness. Seriously, she’s off the charts amazing especially with something so emotional. Jason Carpenter was strong and fierce in his narration. Loved the performance!

Absolute perfection! 10 Stars!

This audiobook is magnificent! Aly Martinez has absolutely blown me away with her incredible storytelling and absolutely gut-wrenching and heartbreaking story. Twisty, sexy, touching, and absolutely unforgettable. Elizabeth and Roman’s romance and journey is all things devastating and beautiful. Their chemistry was intense, vibrant, and utterly palpable. I couldn’t stop listening to their story even while being buried alive in feels. And I loved every single second of it. This story is simply perfection and MUST be experienced.

The narration team of Andi Ardnt, Maxine Mitchell, Jason Carpenter absolutely blew me away. Their narration captivated me from the prologue. Their performances felt so effortless and brought Aly Martinez’s story to life beautifully. I have never had 13 hours fly by so quickly! It almost felt like I had just watched a movie when I was done. This is one audiobook and story I won’t soon forget! 10 Stars.

A suspenseful story

4.5 stars
The Complete Retrieval Duet by Aly Martinez was my first read by this author. The story was well written, suspenseful and full of emotion. I listened to this story, and thought the narrators did a good job of portraying the characters. I was hooked on the story, and couldn't stop listening. I loved the first half which was more of Elizabeth and Roman's story. The second focused more on Claire and Heath.
I gave it 4.5 stars as I had trouble with the author's decision to not fully address Elizabeth's feelings toward Claire and Tessa. I felt there was a whole story to be told there. That being said I would give the first part a 5. I had so many emotions throughout the story, and my heart broke for Elizabeth and Roman. I even felt bad for Claire and her situation, but I felt she did an injustice to Elizabeth.
I do not want to say much about the story to not give anything away. I went into this story just reading the blurb, and was glad to not know too much and get to experience all the emotions and suspense as the story progressed.
I highly recommend this story and the audio was great to listen to.
