About this listen

The hunt for a killer in San Francisco becomes a dizzying game of cat and mouse in a thrilling novel of psychological suspense.

“Lombard is your Moriarty, Frost. Taking him down will be the most dangerous thing you’ve ever done.”

San Francisco homicide detective Frost Easton hadn’t seen his estranged friend Denny in years. Not until he dies in Frost’s arms uttering a final inexplicable word: Lombard. Denny appears to be the latest victim in a string of murders linked by a distinctive clue: the painting of a spiraled snake near the crime scenes. Is it the work of a serial killer? Or is Denny’s death more twisted and personal?

To find the answer, Frost reaches into a nest of vipers - San Francisco’s shady elite - where the whispered name of Lombard is just one secret. Now, drawn into a cat-and-mouse game with an enemy who knows his every move, Frost finds there is no one he can trust. And somewhere down the crooked streets of the city, Frost’s cunning adversary is coiled and ready to strike again.

A very crooked street it is!

Talk about twists and turns; this book is full of them! And then the ending blows me away! I'm still asking what just happened; I was suspicious but didn't see that coming! There has to be a sequel and it better be soon!
Although a little slow in the beginning, the plot picked up as more people died and you still didn't know who the head bad guy was! At least the protagonist was as confused and taken in as I was!
So glad I stuck with it! Not so fond of the narrator; the changes of voices was just not suiting to the characters.

Fun and easy listen. Adore the narrator!

Frost Easton isnt quite John Stride but these books are all fun stories and it is easy to get attached to the main characters. SPOILER FOR BRIAN FREEMAN NOVELS AS A WHOLE: Im way tired of people being someone their not with no real clues to the other. books dont work like tv with visual clues so it would be nice to not have a character just magically be someone else. I still love them all and cant wait for the next one though.

Exciting Crime thriller!

The beginning of the story was just ok. I really thought this would be my least favorite in the series, but things got intense and interesting in the second half.
Frost is in a race to take down a criminal mastermind named Lombard. He quickly realizes this will be a difficult and deadly task. Even though lots of people work for Lombard, none of them have ever seen him or knows who he is. The price for crossing Lombard is death.
Excellent story with an unexpected ending.
Great audible narration.

Frost Easton is one cool character

Riveting and well-paced with the right amount of humor. Joe Barrett knocks another Freeman novel out of the park.
