About this listen

The Principal Investigator of the Chaalt people has covertly enlisted the aid of Nathan Myers and the crew of the Legacy. They desperately need help gaining access to their secret Prule research station. The facility has gone dark, and the automated defenses activated. Even the Chaalt's own advanced warships were not able to breach the shield dome and disable the cutting edge weaponry that protects the base. Nathan and his crew are in a race against time, because they believe a Prule Hivemind they once captured, now controls the facility. If the Hivemind is able to assimilate the Chaalt tech, it could escape and endanger the entire galaxy. If it can return to Andromeda, the Prule will reverse engineer the technology and return with the means to prevail in the second invasion of the Milky Way galaxy. Nathan, Justice, and the crew of the Legacy will do whatever it takes to prevent that outcome, or die trying.

The entire series so far has felt like the plot of a fps video game, and that's not entirely a bad thing. When taken as a whole, the Halo/Mass Effect story lines are fairly complex and compelling.

This one, however, was a bit too much video game, with the bulk being akin to the optional side missions many players use to level up gear before continuing with the story. Whereas the first 2 books did at least minimal world and character building, even main-secondary characters in this one just spouted repeated, single-minded lines to push the main character forward through copy and pasted zone after zone of 'kill the bad guys'.

The first book kind of set the stage and helped the MC meet some people and get his feet wet, the second book got him established and introduced a few different overarching plot possibilities, and this one just.. I don't know. It didn't seem to address or further any type of overarching plot, it didn't seem to have any real subplots; it just seemed to be "shoot this, blow that up, spend some time in my quarters with the 'pretty' girl, bask in Main-Character-on-Easy-Mode worship from empty husk NPC's".

I could (and hope to) be wrong and this was just necessary filler, but I'm really not sure how any of this book could end up being a relevant necessity to any type of series plot. I'll probably pick up the next one, if for no other reason than to find out, though.

Non-Interactive video game

A good story line, a good author, and a great audio reader. I will be following this saga.

This kind of reads like a best of mashup of Star Trek, Star Wars, and Mass Effect.
Nathan, Tria, Sale, Kuntz, Clutch, and of course Justice just make it such a fun story that still sparks that sense of awe and wonder when they encounter sights we can only imagine, like the irradiated and destroyed planetary system, ruined ages long ago.
And Ramon De Ocampo brings it all together masterfully. He makes the story a joy to listen to. Really well done, and I can’t wait to get the next book!

Another great story

honestly i think the mc takes a hit to the head every other chapter... dude that’s called brain damage ... seriously he says he can’t hear or see or think everytime he gets into a fight ... sounds like a glass jaw
