About this listen

A society of rugged individualists and economic competitors.... A world of nuclear politics and uncontrollable forces.... For many, modern living means loneliness, disaffection, apathy and isolation.

Is there an escape? In a startling, life-affirming work by one of America's foremost thinkers, Dr. M. Scott Peck examines the concept of community, its roots, its development and, most importantly, its rewards for contemporary America. In this audio, which features segments from a live lecture and narration by the author, Dr. Peck draws on his first-hand experiences and studies, and leads the way on a journey from isolation to togetherness, towards peace in our society and in the world - for the true fulfilment of all individuals!

Not really an audiobook

This is not really an audiobook. It’s the splicing together of a couple of lectures along with a narrator/acolyte who comes in to frame things. It’s also very dated (a lot of Cold War stuff) and very Christian.

Good, but not his best.

Where does The Different Drum rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Lacks the grab your attention factor of the other Scott Peck books. This one is kind of a dud.

A Different Sound

While this does not sound anything like most of the audiobooks I’ve listened to before, it was still enjoyable. I was grateful that the concepts were communicated in a short time. Although it would have been better if the verbal fillers and hesitations weren’t there.

Not narration of the text

I evidently missed the notation "abridged" in the description, but this was not abridged. It was a collection of recordings about the book. The audio quality was poor, as it was a re-recording of audio tapes. If you want to learn what is in this book, you should buy a print copy.

Disappointed again

Not the book I thought I was getting but merely commentary about and possibly excerpts from the book. I've read The Different Drum and this was not it. A well done teaser for the real thing nevertheless.
