About this listen

Dr. M. Scott Peck has inspired millions by combining the deepest insights of psychiatry with those of religion. In this final volume of his compelling audio series based on the best-selling book People of the Life, Dr. Peck once again integrates religious teaching with the science of all psychology as he offers hope for healing one of society's most persistent failings: human evil.

In Volume 3, Dr. Peck explores the largely unknown world of possession and exorcism. He also describes the unique relationship between group evil and individual evil, demonstrating how one person can affect or be affected by the actions and attitudes of a group. Drawing on his experiences as a psychiatrist and his observations of vivid incidents of evil in today's society. Dr. Peck takes us further into the dark side of the human psyche.

Told in Dr. Peck's characteristic warm and accessible style, People of the Life, Volume 3, concludes his groundbreaking exploration of the essence of evil and provides a spiritual understanding as well as a way of coping with this age-old problem.

I had read a book on toxic people. That author mentioned Dr. Peck in her discussion of evil. When reading People of the Lie, Vol. 1, I discovered Peck had worked with people who were possessed. A dear family member, who I love very much, had been struggling with possession and drug and alcohol recovery, so I was intrigued to read further. I’ve now listened to all 3 audio books in the series and just finished The Road Less Traveled. I’m currently reading Glimpses of the Devil. I find this all more than fascinating because I do believe the devil exists and, therefore, evil exists.I’ve also enjoyed Peck’s descriptions of behaviors from a psychiatric perspective. I’ve gained a deeper respect for the field of psychiatry. I enjoy learning—Peck’s works are not only educational, but engaging. He’s a very readable author. The fact that he is a Christian gives me comfort.

M Scott Peck was a masterful psychiatrist and Christian man who was deeply concerned about evil as a specific form of mental illness centering on malignant narcissism as identified by Erich Fromm. it was Peck's contention that this phenomenon be studied scientifically. and it was his hope that this book combined with volume 1 and volume 2 of the audible version would serve as a foundation for a psychology of evil. I highly recommend this book in all three volumes or its paperback version 2 adult readers of all ages end throughout Society who are concerned about the well-being of individuals families groups organizations and the institutions of society as well as the well-being of Nations throughout the world. everything good ultimately hinges on coming to terms with evil which begins with people deluding themselves that is lying to themselves about wrongdoing in their own Hearts Minds and lives.

I've re-read this book at least a dozen times in 15 years. I suppose i'll read it many more times over the years. I've found it very useful and it is simply a "one of a kind" work.

It continues to provide me valuable perspective and insight regarding a real force at work influencing the people around us everyday. It is important to understand how evil operates, as we certainly cannot protect ourselves from it nor defend others less informed if we don’t have a clear picture of exactly what it is we are dealing with.

This book does well to identify evils subtil characteristics in a variety of case studies. Dr. Peck's experience and discernment, combined with his skillful, precise and "surgical removal" of the masks that people wear in addition to shining light on the darkness under those masks, is absolutely outstanding.

I'm 50 years old, educated and am very well read. To date, this book remains one of the best I've read on the subject of evil.
