About this listen

When Lex is thrown into an unfamiliar realm of magic and fantastical beings, he must uncover two truths to survive: who he is—and why everyone keeps trying to kill him.

As he journeys through the world of Arameth, Lex encounters a mysterious girl who only deepens the enigma and strangers who may know more than they reveal. But the deeper he digs, the more dangerous the truth becomes. In a realm shaped by ancient powers and buried secrets, almost nothing is as it seems—and survival may come at a heavy cost.

The Edge of Nothing is a young adult epic fantasy with a contemporary fantasy twist, perfect for listeners who love adventure, battles, mystery, humor, suspense, magic, and a dash of (clean) sweet romance.

NOTE: Though clean and free of profanity or excessive gore, and with a fair deal of sweet moments and humor, this audiobook (and overall series) also doesn't shy away from intense themes like death, trauma, sacrifice, and the brutal costs of war. Listeners can expect battle scenes, loss, and moments of darkness—but always told through a lens of hope, courage, and friendship. No matter how dark things may get, my stories always end with hope!

If you enjoyed books like Eragon, The Assassin's Apprentice, and The Young Elites, you'll probably love The Edge of Nothing.

Enter the world of Arameth and discover the danger that waits beyond the edge.

Narrator: no drastic differentiations to speak of, pleasant tone of voice. Audio glitches every once in a while, duplicate takes of the same sentence weren’t edited out properly. Yelling needs to be leveled out so your ears don’t bleed at the sound jumó.

Parents: pretty bloody but would be appropriate for 13/14+
Language: none
Violence: PG-13
Sexual content: G

Story: I’m going to try to not repeat everything others have said… but the audio quality and editing detracts SEVERELY from this series. I restarted this book twice thinking maybe I just missed something; I didn’t. The start of this book is incredibly confusing and as you move through the story you remain semi confused but some things clear up at a painfully slow pace. I understand Lex’s irritation with himself like it’s my own, but that doesn’t make the story more enjoyable.

I enjoyed the clean lack of sexual content and language (not common for the genre) but I wish there had been a more coherent storyline along with better audio quality, editing, and differences between characters. The yelling could have been better recorded in a way that doesn’t wreck the audio even more.

Excellent & original. I loved this audiobook. It exactly what I look for in audiobooks. The story was great. I can see how some people in other reviews saying that its a little confusing. I only found it confusing if I was zoning out and not paying attention. Then I'd go back a few seconds and duhhh... everything is easy pzy! But I really enjoyed all the characters! And the narrator was AMAZING. Sometimes the yelling got a little too much for my white girl nordic ancestry. But I did marry an Italian so I am gradually getting used to it. But other than that, he gets an A+ for putting so much emotion into what he was reading. Oh and I love how he played Nigel. This was amazing. I want more. "Lex is a seventeen-year-old with no memories before this morning, and no clue why a group of villagers want him dead. Realizing they have mistaken him for a destructive magicborn who slaughtered innocents in their village, Lex flees for his life—only to discover he’s more tangled in the conflicts of the past than he ever imagined. And the mysterious girl he stumbles upon during his escape creates a whole new set of problems...

An epic fantasy / portal fantasy / soft sci-fi mashup, this book is teeming with quirky characters, fantastical creatures, surprises and suspense"
I agree with this synopsis and/or blurb. I loved the first two books of this trilogy. I also agree with previous reviews that like Lex we are thrown into the story and action and are a bit confused, like the main character, Lex.

The book is worth staying with, Lex has visions. They can take place where he is or he is suddenly in another unknown place. He has to learn of his visions as he is chased by creatures or people he doesn't know. In the beginning he awakens and he doesn't remember who he is or what he is doing. I got confused at times but the author kept me straight. This plot never failed to keep my interest. The Narrator does a great job. I love that this story is clean without any frank sex. The world of Arameth is so wonderful. You will be glad there is a book number two.

A Great Book

I am Crystal Crawford, author of The Edge of Nothing... It may be a little weird to review my own audiobook, but I just wanted to give Brad Gilliam a shout-out for the amazing job he did narrating this book. My readers keep commenting on how much they LOVE his character voices, and he really brought my book to life. As an author, that makes me so happy! Thank you, Brad, for being so professional and doing such a great job on this audiobook.

This was a great book written very well, and had a great narrator that did a great job. The characters get developed nicely. There is some surprises in store for you as you check this book out.

The first couple chapters made me confused at times but still got me interested in hearing more. There is so many twists and turns that you never know what will happen next.

Narrator did a great job, each character had their own voice and it never seemed to waver from it.
