About this listen

In the far future, unbeknownst to humankind, an apocalyptic war is brewing. Fearsome, vengeful Demons rage at the boundaries of the world, held at bay by a spell called the Forbidding. But now that barrier is dying. Evil is beginning to break through. And only the Chosen can banish the Demons back to their realm.

Thoroughly enjoying the entire series and can't wait to listen to the next one. I also enjoy the Narration with Scott Brick in particular.

wonderful series

It is a story I first read as a teenager. Now, like Allanon, youth has flown from me and I find that I love this story even more with the second reading.

A Beautiful Story for the Ages

This book reminds us of the fact that we are a part of something bigger than ourselves. Sometimes the right choices are difficult but necessary.

Great story of sacrifice and triumph

This story was very interesting, very captivating, and at times very slow. You switch between two main sequences of events, and the flow is easy to follow. But the last quarter of the book drug on and on. I will say, Scott Brick CARRIED this story and made it something I wanted to finish even when my attention had wavered. He did great character voices, and made the battle scenes easy to follow.

Another great tale by Brooks. Sad and surprising ending that neatly wraps up the story…until the Wishsong…

Another great tale

wonderful classic, masterfully done

Loved it as much now as when I was a kid. I just wish the narrator would learn how to pronounce Shannara.

Great Book

Very well worth the listen. It has a somewhat Tolkienesque formula, without the overtly in depth history lesson. Don't get me wrong, I love the Lord of the Rings series, but I like to enjoy a lighter side of fantasy with a hint of romantic intrigue as well, which this book seems to do well.

When sequels are better than the original.

'The Elfstones of Shannara' was the first book that got me interested in fantasy. Being interested in mostly horror this Brooks story was so good I read it three times in a row, back in the 90's. The character arcs are great and the "Reaper" who is the most terrifying of the demons, to me. This is why I got this on audio. I am jumping to "The Scions of Shannara" next. Oh, the performance was top notch.

The Best

One of my favorite stories. Hated the performance. The performer's accent/voice doesn't work for me.

Great novel, poor performance.
