Incredibly imaginative

This is an incredible twist to the typical story of good challenges by evil. Now, it's evil that is being challenged by good and I am excited to hear the next in the series.
Narrator is great, but sometimes the audio dynamic range goes from too soft to too loud. The majority is too soft in comparison to other audiobooks, so I have to be attentive to volume on my headphones and speakers.

A Good Book to Grab

Any additional comments?

I grabbed this book because of how much I enjoyed Chronicles of the Black Gate. The books were great and above what I expected from a new author.
This book did not let me down. From start to finish Mr. Tucker maintains a good pace and keeps the characters distinct in their personality.
In a world where your god has been killed how can you move on? This is a question the characters struggle with as with the loss of their physical connection they also lost a spiritual connection that is hard to deal with.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun fast read or listen.

Demigods, Undead, Demons, Adventure, and Action!

The Empire of the Dead
By: Phil Tucker
Narrated by: Paul Guyet
This book surprised me! It started strong and stayed there. The constant rush of new material, excitement, adventure, fantasy was just awesome! The author would let you barely catch your breath and then the craziness would begin again! The book was about traveling demigods on a mission, I guess their life is never dull! The town they entered was filled with undead, and an occasional demon!
The narrator was super awesome, part demigod himself, lol. Terrific job!!!

Not a bad read...

Story started a bit slow, but once you got to know the characters, it picked up. Good action, fast paced and surprisingly humorous! Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

A fun, fast paced, listen

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it hooked me from the first scene and by the midway point I was looking for chores to do and errands to run to keep listening. The characters are interesting and likable. The world is detailed and fascinating yet there's no info dumping. The heist plot is fast paced with some unexpected twists. Because the main adversary is a death demigod, some of the imagery is a bit macabre, but it's not a dark book. Overall the book is fun and entertaining and well worth the time.

What does Paul Guyet bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I also have the Kindle version of the book and switched back and forth depending on what I had going on. I didn't prefer one over the other. The narrator does a fine job, I liked all the character voices, he handles the women's voices well, as well as some of the unusual names. It was more a straight reading than a performance, it worked well.

Any additional comments?

Because I both read and listened to this book a couple of additional comments. The author has a style of sometimes jumping ahead in the action and changing locations between chapters. I never noticed this at all while I was reading. It added interest and was one of the reasons the book was so fast paced and fun. However, when I was listening, I would at times be a little confused and worried that I had missed something or had hit the skip button inadvertently. Wasn't a big deal once I figured it out. Also, while the map and glossary that are available on the Kindle version aren't necessary, I did like them. It would be nice if they were available to listeners as a pdf or online.

An enjoyable tale.

Enjoyed the bronze age setting. Went in thinking it was a heist story, and found it was really more of a "make the plan up as we go" story.

amazing listen

hands down one of the best reads I've heard in a long time. the narrator was exceptional and the story is akin to the percy Jackson series with an oceans eleven twist. I'm picky with my fantasy but this I recommend strongly to any fantasy readers out there

Walking Dead Meets Oceans 11 Meets Gilgamesh

Two brilliant POV characters with distinct narrative voices, which the narrator just hits out of the park.

good story

good story. The narrator had good voices, however each and every one of them was monotone. not sure if they could sound emotional if someone kicked them in the you know what's. Hopefully it gets better in book 2 otherwise I'll read them myself.
