About this listen

ROYAL RETRIBUTION

Once little more than a doll on a shelf, Luxeria has ascended the throne and begun her quest for revenge. Armed with incredible magic, past-life memories, and the five Sacred Swords, she cleaves away the corrupted roots of the state. Her investigation into the depths of her enemies' sins reveals a disturbing truth: a shocking number of magical children have gone missing from the city. But to what end? When our bloodthirsty queen uncovers the true horrors wrought by those in power, heads are bound to roll!

Overall I give this a 3/5.

I wanted to finish the 2 novels before posting a review so here are my thoughts.

The story isn’t very good to be honest. It isn’t unbearably awful or anything like that it just feels bland a lot of the time. The ending is extremely predictable. The characters are all so so and the only fun one is the Maid in waiting, even she is predictable tho. The entire story the MC (spoiler spoiler) is supposedly struggling with balancing her use of magic because over using it is supposed to kill her, that doesn’t stop her from using it constantly tho, yet other then some drama about coughing up blood, nothing really happens until the end of book 2. It makes this struggle pointless. It doesn’t hold her back.

The voice acting performance is a 4/5, not perfect but still good. I don’t have any complaints about the voice actor and I wouldn’t give anyone a higher rating. There is no such thing as a perfect performance.

Overall as I stated I give it a 3/5. Don’t go out of your way to give it a listen. If you enjoy isekai/reincarnation stories and female MCs then it may be worth your time, just don’t expect anything awesome. I suggest waiting for a sale. I don’t think it’s worth the full price tag or the cost of an Audible credit.

It’s OK

I dont like the mc. I've listened to both books and she becomes less and less likeable and understandable as the story goes on. admittedly this author seems to do the same thing every time.

The end really sucks.

It's a lot similar to Accomplishments of the Duke's Daughter, but very contrived. the bad guys are clownishly evil. Magic solves everything instantly and conveniently. The main character has mind control AND give all powerful swords AND has knowledge of our world AND is queen. Her main hurdle is a childhood injury that never really stops her from doing what she wants. The love story is between the queen and a man who she meet for five minutes once when she was 8 and who spends the entire book in a magic coma. As others have mentioned, the ending is bad. More importantly, the majority of the second half of the book doesn't need to exist to tell the same story.

The performance was great, but I don't know if I can really recommend this series.

not terrible but. . .
