Publisher's summary

Amidst the galaxy-wide war of the Great Crusade, the Emperor castigates the Word Bearers for their worship.

Distraught at this judgement, Lorgar and his Legion seek another path while devastating world after world, venting their fury and fervour on the battlefield. Their search for a new purpose leads them to the edge of the material universe, where they meet ancient forces far more powerful than they could have imagined.

Having set out to illuminate the Imperium, the corruption of Chaos takes hold, and their path to damnation begins. Unbeknownst to the Word Bearers, their quest for truth contains the very roots of heresy.

Jesus, turn down the music

The story is great. The narration is also really good. The music between sections and at the beginning and end of the reading is so loud that it’ll make your ears bleed.

You’ve been warned, so dive in.

40k Horus Heresy EXCELLENCE by A. Dembski-Bowden!!

Loved it - great audio narration; never over the top. This tale is easily amongst the top 10 of 40k's heresy series, written by one of it's two most gifted authors.

Background on the Word Bearers

I didn't expect to feel bad for the Word Bearers after all we've seen from them in other stories in this series.

they'll never be my favorite legion and I'm still no fan of Lorgar, but Argel Tarl is one of those characters in this universe that is easy to love. He's not perfect but his flaws shape him and give us a way to understand how so many of the rank-and-file astartes ended up freely joining the rebellion.

this story also gives more information about the Emperor and the background of the primarchs. Absolutely not a story to skip.

Favorite Horus Heresy Novel so far

I am currently trying to read/listen to all of the Horus heresy novels in order and this one has been the best so far. It has everything, and I couldn’t stop listening to it. The voice acting was great as well!

Great Reading of a Great Book

The only thing about this reading that i would even possibly have a gripe about is that the voice actors voice was so good at Lorgar that I felt the other characters needed different actors to do them to keep the voice special. This is one of the the best books in the Heresy series.

Lorgar is a pathetic man child

Seriously. This entire book is about a hissy fit thrown by the galaxy’s largest man baby. Good book though
