About this listen

A savvy, addictive novel about a woman torn between her husband and the man she thought she'd marry.

Annie Adams is days away from her 32nd birthday and thinks she has finally found some happiness. She visits the world's most interesting places for her syndicated travel column and she's happily cohabiting with her movie director boyfriend Nick in Los Angeles. But when Nick comes home from a meeting with his therapist (aka "futures counselor") and announces that he's taking a break from their relationship so he can pursue a woman from his past, the place Annie had come to call home is shattered.

Reeling, Annie stumbles into her neighborhood bar and finds Griffin - a grounded, charming chef who seems to be everything Annie didn't know she was looking for. Within three months, Griffin is Annie's husband and Annie finds herself trying to restart her life in rural Massachusetts.

I’m glad Annie ultimately made the decisions she did. And I’m glad I was wrong about how this would end. Griffin watching Roman Holiday made me think I’d be crying at the end! The narration was a little annoying, but I liked the story!

Satisfying Ending

The story was only ok. I loved Dave’s 800 Grapes & The Last Thing He Told Me, so I kept going and expecting the story to get better, but it was overall very bland.

Ok story, terrible narration

The story wasn't bad and it was a quick intertaining read. However, the narrator sounded AI generated and it almost made me quit several times throughout the book because the narrator had no emotion amd sounded monotone.

Okay Story

Laura Dave tells a sweet love story and does a great job developing her characters. However,Elizabeth Klett, the narrator has a voice that set me on edge - shrill, sing-song, unpleasantly saccharine and artificial - that constantly distracted me from the story.

Nice story, but Elizabeth Kletts voice was an unpleasant distraction

Starts off getting my attention but in 90 minutes this just became background noise. Not much character development and the storylines weren’t predictable, they were definitely unrealistic. The narrator’s performance was just ok. It was a little whiny kind of sounded like one of those foreign shows that are dubbed in English. The narator’s voice was a little bit more on the mechanical whiny side. It wasn’t bad. It was easy background reading. It was fairly enjoyable to listen to in the background, as I was completing tasks in the home.

Just ok

The narrators voice was too formal, somewhat robotic and I didn’t care for it. Unfortunately it took away from the story for me. When trying to be objective and take the voice out of it I would say the story was good. Interesting enough but not riveting.

Good story, didn’t care for narrator

An easy read, light and funny, but still creating an anticipation for the outcome, which i found pleasing.

Sweetly entertaining

The story felt a little bit scattered and not a lot of character development. However, it was a light read for the lake. The narrator needs to be less emphatic with her diction.

Good story, terrible narration

I enjoyed all of the places the author described. It made me feel like I was there. I would recommend this book to my daughter and sister. I also liked the ending. The only thing I didn’t like was the “She said,” “He said.”

Enjoyed the story
