Deep in a forest of Regency England dwells The Forest Lord - and there he dwells alone. A living legend, the powerful Green Man of yore has but one chance to escape his forest prison and one hope for love - the very woman he has vowed to destroy.

Firstly, the plot - The Fane Forest Lord makes a bargain with Lady Eden's father to make her fall in love with him, give him a child which he will then take and return to his home in the fae world which needs children. Of course things go wrong with his plan and the land, and it's characters, are all left dormant and bereft for 5 years........ until her return.
I swayed between liking it, loving it and disliking it all in equal measures for the following reasons: I didn't like, so couldn't empathise with, the female character as I thought she was soooo naive stupid and short-sighted (no glasses could fix her) and I didn't like her arrogant stuck-up voice. However, the romantic in me, loved the Fane Lord when he returned and became Hartley who was so vulnerable, tender and understanding as he stays and tries desperately to love her. (There were slight references to sex but NO 'hot n heavy').
Worth a credit? Well, it was a well written complex story that slowly unfolds (stick with it) and becomes intense as it takes you on magical journey of discovery of the wicked, the good and the bad - in fact it could almost be made into a Disney type film. So, on reflection of my ramblings above, I don't regret spending the credit and will probably download book 2 Lord of the Beasts which is Ronal's story and then the rest of the series as they are narrated and released by Audible (this book was released in 2002).

Is there anything you would change about this book?
The narrator spoiled it for me.What did you like best about this story?
It's complexity and the way it slowly unfolds, showing the deepening feelings of the characters as she gradually begins to love. What didn’t you like about Christine Williams’s performance?
Far too mannered and the accents are frankly atrocious.Could you see The Forest Lord being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No idea.An excellent book, but . . .
