About this listen

A bad play shouldn’t cause a media meltdown but I’m Kyle Bosco and I’m a competitive jerk. So of course I couldn’t just shut up. Now I must atone for my comments. Somehow that includes working at a daycare with seven year old Piper who thinks I’m her best friend. But Piper is not the one who has me tied up in knots. That job is reserved for Harper Wallace- her mother.

Harper is fierce, combative, and an irresistibly gorgeous single mom.

If hating me were a sport, she'd be MVP. For reasons I can't tell you, she's completely off limits so I obviously should stay away.

But hear me out?

I'm a competitive jerk. I’m not the guy that rides the bench. I’d rather go down swinging and foul out than not play at all.

A romance completely enhanced on audio and showcases ASD representation beautifully!!!!

This book was absolutely EVERYTHING!!! It’s full of baseball, laughter, emotion, fun, sexiness and all the swoon but also beautifully incorporates ASD representation and all the relatability as a mother as well. It had me all in my feels many times and I already know this story is easily going to be one of my top favorites of the year!!

⚾️Baseball romance

📖Harper is doing her best as a single mom while juggling her kids, work, Piper’s needs on the autism spectrum and also making sure her son isn’t left out as well. Kyle Bosco is a right fielder for the Boston Revs and they have quite the meeting at a game when SHE catches his foul ball and he blames her in the media for the loss. To help combat all the hate that Harper is getting online, Kyle is set up by the Revs’ PR team to meet with Harper and her kids. Don’t count this man out because you mind will quickly change from thinking he is a jerk to the ultimate man out there!!

I LOVED the relationship between Kyle and Harper in this book. The build up of their romance was so authentic while Kyle is just the ultimate man who is so kind, patience and goes out of his way to do whatever he can for Harper and her kids. He cares SO much for them and is truly the definition of “if he wanted to, he would!”

This is book 3 of the Boston Revs series but can easily be read as a standalone as well!

🎧AUDIO REVIEW:
Stephen Dexter & Erin Mallon perform this audiobook in a DUET narration and brought this heartfelt story to LIFE with their outstanding performance! They added so much depth to this story with the genuine emotion and feeling in their voices while also acting out the little things like Stephen’s licking of the whipped cream! It all elevated this story and made it such a powerful listen!!

Stephen Dexter showcased every aspect of Kyle perfectly! He started the story with his grumpy and gruff tone as a playboy baseball player but then softened his voice as his relationship with Harper and her kids develops bringing all the swoon in his tone and capturing his caring personality. Then there is Erin Mallon who absolutely nailed Harper Wallace! She made it feel like I was listening to a real parent telling her story. You could hear the stress in her voice at times that made situations feel even more raw while also showcasing all the love she has for her kids and just wanting what is best for them. She beautifully showcased every single struggle and emotion as a parent and made Harper feel so authentic and real!!

This is a book that should be listened to as it completely enhances this story!!

Harper & Kyle

I am completely invested in the Boston Revs universe, and the characters Jenni Bara has created. Kyle and Harper took me on an emotional journey. Although Harper made Kyle work for it, I loved their connection and undeniable chemistry. Harper is an amazing mother who has had to do things on her own. She is strong, independent, and has a hard time accepting help from others. I loved how Kyle showed up for Harper. I especially loved how the author incorporated Harper's journey with Piper, her autistic daughter. Seeing how Kyle immediately connected with Piper made my heart leap right out of my chest. Kyle really did take the cake. I didn't think I would love anyone more than Christian, but here we are. Kyle and Harper had a rough start and a few bumps along the way, but Kyle redeemed himself and showed Harper she could lean on him. The slow burn was delicious, and the mirror scene was HOT. The Foul Out is truly something special, and I couldn't help but root for Kyle and Harper. I’m so glad they got their well-deserved happy ending.

Narration:
Erin Mallon and Stephen Dexter perform this audiobook using duet-style narration. They are the perfect voices for Harper and Kyle, and truly knocked this one out of the park. I could absolutely feel every emotion elicited by this heartwarming story. They fully embodied the characters and brought them to life in the best way. Erin and Stephen's performances enhanced my experience with the story. I highly recommend reading and listening in tandem.

A top audio of the year

Story: 14/10
Spice: 2/5
Spice Hierarchy: Spicy
Narration: 5/5, duet

Harper is trying her very best to balance work and being a single mom. She doesn't have time for fun or games with all the other demands in her life. Enter Kyle Bosco who is only around for a good time but is not happy that Harper ruined his team’s chance at the World Series. Now that the season is done, Kyle is forced to spend some time with Harper and her kids to fix the media storm. Kyle is there to push every single one of Harper’s buttons while also showing up for her and her family day in and day out.

As a teacher working with students on the spectrum, as a parent of a child with a hidden disability, as a mom, and as a human, I love this story. I knew I would love it when I saw the tropes (single mom, ASD representation, reformed playboy). It was a top read of 2024 and the audio brought me to my knees.

Erin and Stephen did so much more than read the words on a page. This was a performance. Everything was so heartfelt. The sighs of frustration, the laughs at Kyle’s antics. The delivery of Piper’s matter-of-fact way of thinking and Sam’s young voice. Although I had already read the story, this made it feel new again.

I don’t care that it's January. I’m saying it now, this will be a top listen for me this year.

After a bad play causing a media meltdown Kyle is left to atone for his comments. He has to work at a daycare with Harper's daughter, Piper. Harper is the reason Kyle is in knots and it doesn't help that she hates him as well. Will they let their emotions get in the way??

I love a good single mom romance. Harper was amazing! She was sassy, independent and combative. I loved how patient she was with her kids especially with Piper. I thought the author did a wonderful job of shedding light into the life of a parent of a neurodivergent kid. It took me a bit to warm up to Kyle, but once I did I was rooting for him and Harper. Despite their circumstances Kyle was so sweet and I loved the effort he made with Harper and Piper.

Most recently I listened to the audiobook and it's fantastic! Performed in duet by Stephen Dexter and Erin Mallon. They embodied their characters. Stephen conveyed Kyle with a deep tone. He captured Kyle's arrogance in the beginning and changed his tone once Kyle got to learn more about Harper and Piper. Erin conveyed Harper with a fierce tone. She captured Harper's sass and protective nature. I also loved Erin's kid voice. It's so good. Highly recommend the audiobook!!

Sweetest jerky alpha golden retriever

🎧ALC Audiobook Review 🎧
Book Title: The Foul Out; Boston Revs #3
Author: Jenni Bara
Narrated by: Stephen Dexter & Erin Mallon

My Thoughts:
My goodness…the way I swooned for Kyle! He won me over with the sweetest step daddy, jerky alpha golden retriever vibes and I loved it! There's just something about his charm, warmth, and those genuine, caring moments that made him irresistible.

One of the things I love about Jenni's writing is how she manages to craft stories that are not only fun, hot, and utterly charming but also deeply relatable. Her characters feel real, with just the right mix of quirks and heart, and Kyle is no exception. The way she balances humor and steamy moments, all while grounding the story in genuine emotions, makes for an addictive read. One of my favorites!

🎧Audio
This duet narration was an absolute treat! Erin perfectly captured the essence of the strong, caring mother figure and I loved how much heart she put into every scene. Her emotional depth really shined through making her character feel so authentic and compelling.

Stephen was fantastic as the broody jock, delivering his lines with the perfect balance of roughness and vulnerability. His inflection added so much depth and I really enjoyed it.

Erin and Stephen had great chemistry and character voices and brought this one to life, I really enjoyed it!
