A reclusive author with a lurid history is ready to divulge her most infamous secret to the world in a chilling short story of Gothic suspense by the bestselling author of The Maid’s Diary.

It’s an offer Grace Logan can’t refuse: ghostwrite the memoir of Claudia Blackwood, a successful novelist once accused of a ghastly triple murder. Did she really do it? In self-imposed exile in her island mansion, the frail Claudia is finally bringing her notorious past to a close. But for Grace, the end of Claudia’s story may be more than a sinister reveal…

Ever Present Past

I have to say this is the first time of knowing of this author and I love that the style is simple but intriguing. I love that she leaves just enough breadcrumbs to make you fill in the puzzle..and you see the picture before the final ending.

Engaging, intriguing, and very Ellery Queen like.

The narrator was good. Her voice changes accordingly and knew who you was talking nit just by tone but inflection.

Looking forward to more from the author and narrator.

Suspense

This book was a five star read for me. I wish it was longer because the suspense had me wanting more. Everything was perfect. The mood it set, the narrator, perfectly written. I need to find more stories like this.

Atmospheric Thriller

This was an atmospheric thriller about a Ghost Writer who has to be talked into working with a notorious killer who is ill and about to pass. Loved the setting and atmospheric touches, though I did figure out the twist. Narration was fitting, but too quiet in several places.

Twists and turns

I liked the twisty way it was written. It was atmospheric and that added suspense. I had to warm up to the narrator a bit but really enjoyed it !!

Must be more for true crime fans

I enjoyed the spooky vibes, haunted house feel, and the suspicion I had of literally every character introduced throughout the story. I also enjoyed the location's scenery and the red herrings. However, though the ending was a surprise, it still felt flat/contrived to me.

Awesome

I can’t say anything about the story that won’t be a spoiler. Just listen to it.

I wanted to like this.

I wanted to like this as I'm a Loreth Anne White fan (having only read her books). The plot was predictable from the start, but I can deal with that, my main issue was the narrator. Her voice was VERY soft when representing other characters and I had to turn up the volume almost full force to hear her. I felt that this could have been done better.

Suspenseful

Guessing game to the end, the reader did an excellent job, very twist at the end of the story.
