About this listen

When a body is found buried near the desolate forest road of Kellers Way, Detective Melanie Carter must identify the victim if she is to have any chance of finding the killer. That's no easy task with fragmentary evidence from a crime committed years earlier and a conspiracy of silence from anyone who might have information.

The one person who may be able to help is Julie West. In a troubled marriage, Julie often jogs along Kellers Way to clear her mind and escape the confines of her suffocating suburban life. Until one day, something happens there that shakes Julie to the core, making her question everything she ever believed about her life, her marriage and even her sanity . . .

Not a bad story, just stretched out. The narrator was enjoyable except as the child... like nails on a chalkboard.

Could have been told in half the time.

I really liked this book. I figured who I thought it was pretty quick, but the book made me keep second guessing myself right to the end. Kept me listening, plus I liked the detective and her kids. I hope Ms. Goldin is planning a sequel- I’d pre-order right now!

A Twist! And Twisted!

This was good. I was confused hated the husband though like he was just really unlikeable. I love this style of writing though.

This was hands down the easiest way to make a 12 hour drive. I was intensively listening my entire drive, and it made it go by so fast.

Intense. I was glued from the beginning to end.

I previously enjoyed The Night Swim and The Escape Room. I found this book equally as good. It kept me guessing all the way to the ebd. I look forward to reading another book by the author.

The book is 99% American English, but a few Australian English phrases slipped through editing. it was like an Easter egg hunt trying to find them.

Another Excellent Goldin Novel

Loved the book and love this author!!! Book kept me guessing until the very end! The narration was not good. The pronunciation of some of the words was almost ridiculous. Saying draw instead of drawer and capSHule instead of capSule, just for a few examples, kind of drove me crazy. Tone and inflection and those things were great, but pronunciations were a big miss for me.

Loved this book, great author!

What a story. This story stayed with me like the Escape Room did after I finished it. The two narrators were fantastic! Anthea and Susan had excellent dictation, tone and reading pacing. The only thing I would have like would have been a more concise ending. The story ending left me with questions; Did the detective Mel believe Julie after her final conversation? Did she trust her instincts that Julie's husband may have gotten away with the perfect murder and attempt to investigate the truth? Aside from the lingering questions I had when I finished the book. The story is still very very good, entertaining and keeps you on your toes with the twists and revelations as Julie works to solve the missing pieces of her memory, the car accident and "you're not safe" comment said her after she witnesses a car crash.

Captivated Listener

I just don’t understand why there would ever be so many mispronounced words in any audiobook. The narrator was very good except for pronunciation and I don’t get it. Isn’t there a review process? Or even just as a friend how ‘Antigua’ is pronounced. Or Hyundai, capsules (which is a word that appears about 1000x in this book), etc etc. She’s good otherwise but really - I don’t get it.

The pronunciation....

Terrible narrator, stop with the gasping already, as was mentioned in other reviews. Definitely annoying. Otherwise good book.

I really enjoyed this story, I'm a fan of the night swim as well.

Two things I didn't really enjoy. First, and it might be a bit picky but when the narrator for the detective spoke she takes a fast deep breath and at times it was all I could pay attention to. The second was I wasn't a huge fan of the ending..it was a really interesting story and the end just felt a bit unfinished. Maybe that was the point?

Love this author.
