Publisher's summary

Three-time Christy Award winner Davis Bunn collaborates with the beloved Janette Oke to evoke the spirit of the original followers of the Way. In a first-century Jerusalem seething with turmoil, religious and political leaders eye the burgeoning Christian community with suspicion. While a Hebrew merchant and a Roman soldier vie for the hand of a lovely follower of Christ, she finds her heart drawn to another whose tireless care and unflinching faith shine daily.

Critic reviews

"Richly textured and filled with familiar New Testament figures, their novel also meticulously describes the political climate of the time, including the conflicts between the Romans, Zealots, and Hasmodeans. More than a simple love story, given miracles, martyrdom, and men on a mission, this is the perfect tale for readers who enjoy such biblical epics as Henryk Sienkiewicz’s Quo Vadis, Lew Wallace’s Ben Hur, and Lloyd C. Douglas’ The Robe." ( Booklist)

Better each time!

I recently “rediscovered” this delightful Biblical devotion story. As I listened again, the story was as fresh and captivating as it was the first time!

It’s a wonder picture of the book of Acts,

Loved it! It’s important to know this is historical fiction, we don’t take it as solid scripture. But, a nice story on book of Acts

I really enjoyed this series!

These writers make the Bible seem like I’m living in that day. Experiencing what it must have been like to live then and increasing my faith to live my life for Jesus.

wonderful Biblical historic fiction

you can tell the author did a lot of research on this not only in the Bible but another historical books that are available during the Bible days. It brought so much to light and life in this period of time. nowhere does the bible say that Steven was married but that's the historical part of it and that's what makes the read even more wonderful. it's not a sexually explicit book thank heavens it is a beautiful beautifully done story of the early church.

Awesome Read!

This is so like what it could have been back then. I am an avid reader of both Bible and historical fiction and authentic literature. This is just an exceptional read.

Love The History

What a great way to review the history of the early church! The story is interesting, however, the author's stories tend to drag on a bit. Conversations with too much elaboration. I find myself losing interest in wanting them to get to the point or move on. I also think that it’s not good to use real historical characters and put words in their mouth and attribute actions to them, particularly when it’s biblical people, because it can lead people to form opinions that are not true or to think something happened that didn’t. With the things of God, it’s critical that things be accurate.

This is one of my favorite narrators. Her voice is pleasant, she sounds authentic when acting, and her characters' voices are good. .
