About this listen

Leland

Growing up, I was taught that getting too close to someone would be my downfall. But I’ve proven that wrong now that I’m happily married to Jackson, the greatest man in the world. The issue is that mayhem always seems to find me (which is definitely not my fault), and this time, it comes in the form of a woman looking for her daughter. What starts as a simple missing persons case turns into so much more, forcing me to rely on my found family and others, including a muscly “bear” who will definitely not whisk away my husband with his irritatingly sexy accent—I mean, yes, I’m very focused on this case.... Jackson, don’t look at me like that.

Jackson

While Leland is “code potatoing” (whatever that means on his strange cheat sheet), I’m left questioning what he’s gotten himself into this time. At least he’s willing to let me assist him, even if he’s still positive that I should just “sit pretty” and let him handle everything. But with the girl missing, he knows we need to work together to determine whose game we’re playing because not everything is as it seems. Of course, when one gets involved with Leland, nothing is ever simple. But maybe that’s just the way I like it.

Contains: speed walking up way too many stairs while holding pointy objects, feel-better cookies that didn’t turn out quite right, Spanish that definitely isn’t Spanish, and lots of long-suffering people being swept up in Leland’s shenanigans once more.

Just Perfect!

Loved it when I read it and listening to Michael Farriaoulo bring it to life just makes it even better. He is just perfection narrating this series!

This book was GLORIOUS!!! I absolutely loved every single word. I will never, ever get tired of reading about Leland, Jackson, and their cast of friends and family. This is book 4 and it still feels as fresh and new as when I first started this journey years ago with book 1. The antics, the mystery, the banter, the love, the laughs, everything was just perfection. Leland is one of the best characters ever written in my opinion and watching his growth from book 1 until now has been such a treat. He's gone from a hitman who had no ties, loved no one, and killed for sport and money to a man that fiercely protects those he loves with every fiber of his being.
This book went beyond my expectations, delivering on all fronts. I laughed out loud often, I was trying to piece together the mystery, I was misty eyed as Leland showed his love, I was swoony during the tender moments between him and Jackson...it just felt like coming home again.

Another great listen

The story is as ever engaging and a must have for a day of relaxation or long drive. Leland and Jackson and their antics as always leaving me in stitches. Absolutely adore the story, and the warm squishies it leaves me with. Michael is once again a pleasure to have murmuring in the ears, giving life and personality to each character. Each one is unique as he gives individual lives and voices. He takes on a full cast and makes the book 100x better by making funny situations hysterical.

Leland will never not mention the fence...

4.5 stars for the narrator. When I think about it he did a great job. I absolutely loved his voice for Tavish.

3.5 stars for the story. It was entertaining, action packed, filled with family time and romance. Leland actually wasn't so bad in this one. When he is serious and taking care of business is when he is at his best. Will still say Cassel is the better character and hitman. Sorry Leland 🤷🏽‍♀️😆

Loved it

I really loved listening to this audio. Leland is his usual crazy self and Jackson is his weird self. I love the Cassel, Jeremy and Henry were along for the crazy shenanigans Leland gets up to.

I don’t want it to be over!! 😫

I have immediately started listening to this series again because I love it so much. I feel completely invested in the characters lives and don’t want it to be over! I love how devoted Leland and Jackson are to each other. I love the laughs in these books! I can’t name how many times I was laughing so hard that I had tears running down my cheeks. 😂
This was a fun adventure and I liked Tavish as a possible addition. If there are more books, I’m hoping he’s in them or maybe there will be a spin off with him.
Before this series I had not heard of this narrator, but now I have to find more. I feel like he totally nailed every character-but, especially Leland. All I know is that this series has made the top 3 of my favorite series books. Anywho, I’m off to go download anything else Alice Winters has written.

entertaining

Would I listen to it again: yes
Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Was I invested in the characters: mostly

📖 Story comment:
• Pace: good pace, there's always something going on.
• Characters: these characters and their antics are always entertaining.
• Plot: I'm enjoying this series, the "rag-tag" family these guys have created is fun and snarky. I enjoyed the overall story, but it didn't really feel like it had a cohesive flow. There were parts that contained hilarious "scenes", but they didn't really add to the underlying/over arching story.

🎧 Narrator comment:
Michael Ferraiuolo does a masterful performance with these characters. He has good timing, rhythm, inflections and intonations and it's easy to distinguish the characters from each other. A thoroughly enjoyable performance and he bought the story and characters to life.

Oh what fun!

I always imagine Alice Winters laughing (often maniacally) as she writes these stories. Truly a fun ride throughout the whole series! Low angst, low steam, high hijinks and hilarity. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys silliness with their action and romance.

What can I say? This is just another of her fantastic books. This book just came out but I can’t wait for more. I hope we get to see more of these crazy characters in the future.
