Publisher's summary

Caroline Evans, a recently widowed mother of two, thinks things have finally fallen into place when she meets the charismatic Anthony Fleming. They are quickly married, and she and her two children move into his luxury apartment in the legendary Rockwell on Central Park West.

Despite her son's misgivings about the building and the people who dwell there, Caroline dismisses the oddities of their new neighbors as pleasant eccentricities - until things begin to change.

Behind the luxury and beauty of The Rockwell lurks a secret that Caroline can't possibly imagine.

Critic reviews

"This is good, drafty atmospheric horror stuff unafraid to indulge in not-at-all-subtle gory bits. Just the thing to read late at night in an empty house." ( Booklist)

never a disapointment

another great novel, by one of my favorite authors.
john Saul has a nack of keeping the book interesting, and still new to the eyes/ears.

Pretty thrilling...

Once again, another good listen. I didn't feel cheated after listening to this. The ending was interesting. It was almost as if the author was setting things up for a part 2. But I doubt it.

Another hit out the park!

I love John Saul, have read him for years. I was thrilled that Audible had some of his books. They can be a little hokie in places... but they definitely deliver a great story!!! this would be pretty awesome turned into a film. I really enjoyed the story. would have liked a few places at the end a lttle clearer, but not to go into it, as that would be a spoiler. The only complaint was: the narration was FLAT, but got use to it. Great story!!!!!

good story

Good story but hoped it had more explanations for the back story. Great narration, liked the characters.

A very good book

This is typical Saul writing; interesting with twists that keep you guessing until the end. Of course the end got silly but what else could it do? Does anybody else find it disturbing that Sauls books are falling into a deep dark abyss that is child abuse? I liked it better when his target was haunted houses. But..I am a dedicated Saul reader so..until next time--read this one, its worth the money.
