About this listen

For five years, Seattle journalist Anne Jeffers has pursued the horrifying story of a sadistic serial killer's bloody reign, capture, trial, and appeal - crusading to keep the wheels of justice churning toward the electric chair. Now the day of execution has come. A convicted killer will meet his end. Anne believes her long nightmare is over. But she's dead wrong.

Within days, a similar murder stuns the city. As the butcher stalks his next victims, creeping ever closer to her, Anne is seized by an icy unease, a haunting sense of connection to these unspeakable crimes. And relentlessly, she hears the eerie echo of the dead man's last words to her: "Today won't end it. How will you feel, Anne? When I'm dead, and it all starts again, how will you feel?"

Good one!

Another great J. Saul tale that keeps you at the edge of your seat trying to figure out what is going on. This tale is more on the fictional side, but is still a story you will keep listening to. Its exciting! U wont be disappointed in listening to this!

well, not bad

It's John Saul, you know its going to be dark and have some kind of silly ending, like he gets bored., but still good enough.

A Story about a Very Sick Twisted Serial Killer

Would you listen to Black Lightning again? Why?

Yes because it's a complex story involving several characters and how they make the storyline.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mark Blakemore, Because he is a tough as nails veteran homicide detective yet caring.

Which character – as performed by Phil Gigante – was your favorite?

Mark Blakemore

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

A serial killer is causing terror in a large city and expands to the East Coast is brought to justice and put to death in the Electric Chair. Now those that helped put the killer away can sleep at night with their families, or can they and are they safe.

Any additional comments?

A spoiler is below so stop reading if you have not finished the story.
SPOILER WARNING

I liked the accuracy of the city and buildings as they were 100% correct as I grew up where the murders were done and spent lots of time up where the fishing area was.

The story would of been much better if the wrong person was put to death for those crimes not the two killings that was done by the person put to death. This leaves the sick serial killer free to start again which will cause even more terror. The Butcher killings should be removed as that is not needed. Also drop the part where the real killer takes over a body of the husband of the reporter it's to far over the top and is not needed. The fact the real serial killer is still out there will be enough.

John Sauls best book

If you liked Mr Murder by Dean Koontz or Pet Semetary by King you will LOVE this book...

He touches on everything, capital punishment most of all... Its a real gem, I think it is just as good as mister murder by Koontz and just as good as pet semetary or maybe better..

Its too bad that Stephen King has this massive troll army, who buy Saul books just to post the same lame review that "he just gets bored at the end of the book".. idiots..

Be assured... When you buy this book, you will get the best narration and a story that will keep you listening at home, car and work.. and after that you will want to buy John Sauls books..

Check out Sauls Sleepwalk.. good book... so is Hellfire or Creature and so on.. Just read what you like and don't post bad comments just cause you have a fav author...

And ignore the Stephen King troll army...

love, Love, LOVED the Ending!

Even MORE Clever than what I've come to expect from John Saul. Yes, the story's a bit dated, only because of the speed at which technology and Capitol Hill are changing. But hearing about places I see on a daily basis, in such a different way, was part of the fun! I am Truly Sorry this story came to an end. . . Perhaps it isn't too late for a series about a Seattle Detective/Reporter Crime Fighting Duo? 🙄

Pretty lame.

Would you try another book from John Saul and/or Phil Gigante?

No.

What could John Saul have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I just kind of felt the whole thing to be cliche. The writing was not exactly outstanding either.

How could the performance have been better?

Not my favorite reader, but not terrible.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Boredom. It has some gross-out scenes but not much substance, in my opinion.

Any additional comments?

If you are into detective or cop drama, you will most likely be ok with this. If you are looking for something with a supernatural bent, head back to the Stephen King section and save your money on this one.
