About this listen

No feature of the mind is as important, controversial, and mysterious as intelligence. It is the epitome of brain function, and it has a powerful influence on success in life. And thanks to decades of research, we are closer than ever before to understanding it.

Now in The Intelligent Brain, taught by one of the world’s foremost researchers on intelligence, Professor Richard J. Haier of the University of California, Irvine, you’ll trace the fascinating history of intelligence testing and its leading thinkers, as well as what brain imaging studies and the most recent research findings reveal about this most complex of human phenomena.

When the subject of learning speed was brought up the only intervention proposed was trans cranial stimulation. In general the author is too focused on physical effects on the brain. Also 'ordinal' does not mean the variable measured is a complex phenomenon or constructed index.

Assumes accompanying video but there is only audio in the course. That leaves the listener lost many times.

Would recommend listening, though the first half is a little dull. Check out his appearance on the Lex Friedman podcast as well

Decent look into some of the current thinking around neuroscience of intelligence

A lot of this lecture series was referencing slides and videos... I think YouTube would've been a better format. Unfortunate this is an Audible Exclusive, since it seems a lot of the content was lost via the audio format.

Would Be Better With Video

the only thing keeping this from being completely out of the park was the reliance on images, graphs & videos- not available in the audio version. They would have added a lot

Excellent review of the Science

I didn’t like how everything seemed so inconclusive. The field really does deserve more attention, research and funding.

I wanted more lectures

The audio is incomplete without the original video, sometimes is impossible to understand what is being said.
