Publisher's summary

The Killer You Know is a gripping, original story about toxic friendships and revenge - perfect for fans of Laura Marshall, Ruth Ware, and C. J. Tudor.

I'll murder three strangers. And you'll know it was me....

"A blinder of a read." (The Sun)

"A scary, compelling and a completely original page-turner." (Irish Independent)

"An original and gripping thriller." (Laura Marshall)

Summer 1997:

"You need to kill at least three people, right? So that's what I'll do."

When Will jokes about becoming a serial killer, his friends just laugh it off. But Adeline can't help but feel there's something darker lurking behind his words.

Winter 2015:

Years later, Adeline returns to Blythe for a reunion of the old gang - except Will doesn't show up. Reminiscing about old times, they look up the details of his supposed murder spree. But the mood soon changes when they discover two recent deaths that match.

As the group attempts to track Will down, they realize that he is playing a sinister game that harks back to one they used to play as kids. Only this time there are lives at stake....

The book was good.

This book was good. It wasn’t out of this world fantastic or an “OMG you gotta read this” or knock your socks off. It simply a good book and good listen. It did not leave me wanting more … yet the book kept going even after the plot came to an end. It just kept going on and on. By the last chapter I was bored and thinking seriously?!? What more can you tell me????

Really very good!

Imogen always narrates very well! She shines again here.
If this is a debut, I’m going to watch this author!!
I’d have to compare this to many of the books out there right now. Psychologically roping you into the tense timeline. It’s very easy to follow, dialogue is really good! I cared about each one of the friends. Each person has a distinct voice, thanks also to Imogens talent.
I haven’t even finished this book yet but chose to review as it isn’t something you want to miss.

Long!

The storyline good…the length of telling it over the top. The narrator changes in voices were not good.

Wow

guessed the killer right away but then proceeded to second guess my perception of everything the entire book, changed opinions several times before the end! I’ve not had a thriller do that sooooo well before - as a writer, my brain turns “on” the writing side while reading often & it’s easy for me to figure out the plot way before it’s gotten there, including small tiny things. This has made me so entertained today with PTSD triggered it still captured my brain enough to turn the brain hamsters off.

Well Done!!!

This is a very good listen. Keeps you guessing throughout the story. I thought multiple people did it at different times. Not predictable at all.

Great story!

Loved this story! Imogen Church, as usual, does a great job with all of the characters. Will definitely listen to another S.R. Masters book (especially if it's narrated by Imogen Church!)

Not bad, I had the killer figured out from the get

However, Imogene Church did a great job of narration and I enjoyed the 80"s and 90's references. BTW, it isn't always bad when you know the killer, it can be fun anticipating and worrying about the main character's safety in a forehead slapping "what is she THINKING,; he iis CRAZY" sort of a way.

Could have

Been shorter. Way too much information in back and forth time lines that slowed down the good parts. I had a feeling about the killer, but it dragged on too much.

Satisfyingly Intricate, Dark and Twisted

This swept me up in a two day binge listen. The author expertly manages the present/past timelines, and shifting points of view, to fully develop these characters, and immerse us in the remote rural community where five lonely, vulnerable teens formed an insular clique. The gradual development and the stark sense of place creates mounting tension, while the rich dialogue and attention to detail allows this character driven story to never feel rushed. Imogen Church is superb, as always. I eagerly await a second novel by S. R. Masters.
