Publisher's summary

Beauty and glamour meet deception and revenge in this electrifying novel by New York Times best-selling author Amanda Quick.

Investigative apprentice Lyra Brazier, the newest resident of Burning Cove, is unsettled when her boss suddenly goes on a health retreat at an exclusive spa and disappears without another word. Lyra knows something has happened to Raina Kirk, and she is the only one who can track her down. The health spa is known for its luxurious offerings and prestigious clientele, and the wealthy, socialite background Lyra desperately wanted to leave behind is perfect for this undercover job. The agency brings in a partner and bodyguard for her, but she doesn't get the suave, pistol-packing private eye she expected.

Simon Cage is a mild-mannered antiquarian book dealer with a quiet, academic air, and Lyra can't figure out why he was chosen as her partner. But it soon becomes clear when they arrive at the spa and pose as a couple: Simon has a unique gift that allows him to detect secrets, a skill that is crucial in finding Raina.

The unlikely duo falls down a rabbit hole of twisted rumors and missing socialites, discovering that the health spa is a façade for something far darker than they imagined. With a murderer in their midst, Raina isn't the only one in grave danger - Lyra is next.

Interesting characters

Excellent reader, didn’t have a hard time with enunciation or noting emotions.
Great story, good character development and would look forward to, maybe not series but an epilogue book.

Great as Usual, but

No matter what device I used there was more than an occasional dip in sound. The performance was great - it was the audio production. So, although overall it was a 5 star production- there was something wrong with the sound.

Woman PI gets her women & men in more ways than 1.

Good pace, great characters, wonderful story full of action, adventure, mystery, and romance. There was the needed development from the last book, and I'm looking forward to the next book to continue the series. Thank-you JAK as AQ!

Good Story but Weird Narration

I enjoyed the story overall, but the narration was annoying. The voice was a little too “clipped” and the sound was often to low to hear well. Also paving CC and pausing was odd.

Love it!

This author is one of my favorites, and I LOVE how she ties characters from one book to another....but this one really had some interesting twists, every which way....I loved it from the get go...but, I felt she really didn’t develop the bad guys enough...there was just too many...either way, I practically listened non-stop...I long to step back in time and live in Burning Cove!!!

Burning Cove Surprise

I now have actors from the time period now populating my imagination Rosalind Russell as Raina, Jean Arthur as Lyra, Jean Harlow as Angela M. They certainly enhanced my reading experience . The authors normally high standards were exponentially enhanced with this story. The only downside is the offering is too late to be made into a golden age movie .

Amanda Quick is one of the best writers !!

" The Lady Has A Past" is one of Amanda's best books. She writes under several names, all of which are terrific! I reread her books all of the time. I have them in audio and in book format. She has a lot of 3 book series! I hope she keeps writing for a long time!

Female Detectives with Style and Attitude

Amanda Quick is one of my favorite authors. She continues to entertain with her newest installment of the Burning Cove Series. AQ really shows how strong her female characters can be from her heroines to her villains. Whether male or female, her characters are both strong and vulnerable.
Simon Cage is looking for a modern woman who might be considered fast but he's not prepared for Lyra Brazier. Lyra has no plans that include a man until she meets Simon but first they must rescue her boss.
Finding home. Home is different for everyone but when you find your place in this world and the people whom you belong, then you have reached the zenith of life.
This novel is romance, suspense, and spy thriller with a bit of inspiration. As always when I read Amanda Quick's books, I am left with a good feeling.
