Publisher's summary

Written with input from director Rian Johnson, this official adaptation of Star Wars: The Last Jedi expands on the film to include scenes from alternate versions of the script and other additional content.

From the ashes of the Empire has arisen another threat to the galaxy’s freedom: the ruthless First Order. Fortunately, new heroes have emerged to take up arms - and perhaps lay down their lives - for the cause. Rey, the orphan strong in the Force; Finn, the ex-stormtrooper who stands against his former masters; and Poe Dameron, the fearless X-wing pilot, have been drawn together to fight side-by-side with General Leia Organa and the Resistance. But the First Order's Supreme Leader Snoke and his merciless enforcer Kylo Ren are adversaries with superior numbers and devastating firepower at their command. Against this enemy, the champions of light may finally be facing their extinction. Their only hope rests with a lost legend: Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.

Where the action of Star Wars: The Force Awakens ended, Star Wars: The Last Jedi begins, as the battle between light and dark climbs to astonishing new heights.

Featured Article: Princess Leia Organa—A Star Wars Character Guide

There are few fictional characters as iconic as Princess Leia Organa. The inimitable Carrie Fisher, who portrayed Leia Organa on the big screen until her tragic death in 2016, brought a distinct magnetism and spirit to the character. The Alderaanian princess was a heroine who was constantly evolving, ferociously witty, and unapologetically ambitious. From a royal childhood to her work with the Resistance, here's our essential guide to Leia Organa.

I will probably never listen to it again.

You know kids today can't even get into the new movies, stories, books. Kids today prefer the original trilogy movies, characters, toys, you name it and all even though the original trilogy came out nearly 30 years before some of these kids where born.

I've owned this audiobook now for almost a year and I haven't listened to it since the first couple months that I bought it.

Give it a listen, it's a good performance and adds to the movie. If you are like me, you grew up through it all and your a sucker for Star Wars. Just because it's Star Wars doesn't mean you have to like it.

Much Better After Seeing Episode 9

I just watched Episode 9 in theaters. Now, reading The Last Jedi, finding ties to loose ends that will be explained in 9, this book was awesome. Having included additional scenes that were deleted from the film script, more is expounded on and appreciated. A must for any Star Wars nut, like myself.

Better than the movie!

Mark Thompson does it again! All the extra details in the story give it more depth. Great work!

The story continues

Normally in a Star Wars movie novelization you expect a few tidbits...one or two extra scenes, a view inside characters heads. This novel includes enough to be almost a different tale altogether. The first 45 minutes of the audiobook are full on additions, and the explanations and even some events are vastly different. While this story may have divided some fans in the cinema, no discussion of its place in this saga cannot be fully measured without this tale as part of the conversation.

Love the detail and the narration.

All good. 4 stars on performance because I listen while driving and doing other things. While I like the sound effects, some of the constant background noises and sounds panicked me, because I thought they where real-world. The constant sounds were too much. The voices of the characters were perfect. Very enjoyable and now I’ll have to watch the movie again.

The same, with a little innovation

If you liked TLJ, then you'll love this.
If you were on the fence about TLJ, then this will probably help with that.
If you disliked/hated TLJ, then this will do nothing for you.

Overall: OK

I can say without doubt that I made a massive effort to like this story. I rewatched and reread ALL canon before listening to this book and rewatching The Last Jedi in hopes I would end up liking the story. I’m just one of those SW fans that don’t and now I’m comfortable with that. Marc Thompson’s performance is outstanding as usual. Love his storytelling.
