Daniel Crosby
About this listen
From New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Dr. Daniel Crosby comes the behavioral finance book all investors have been waiting for.
In The Laws of Wealth, psychologist and behavioral finance expert Daniel Crosby offers an accessible and applied take on a discipline that has long tended toward theory at the expense of the practical. Listeners are treated to real, actionable guidance as the promise of behavioral finance is realized and practical applications for everyday investors are delivered.
Crosby presents a framework of timeless principles for managing your behavior and your investing process. He begins by outlining 10 rules that are the hallmarks of good investor behavior, including "Forecasting is for Weathermen" and "If you're excited, it's probably a bad idea". He then goes on to introduce a unique new taxonomy of behavioral investment risk that will enable investors and academics alike to understand behavioral risk in a newly coherent and complete way.
From here, attention turns to the four ways in which behavioral risk can be combated and the five equity selection methods investors should harness to take advantage of behaviorally-induced opportunities in the stock market. Throughout, listeners are treated to anecdotes and research that explain the lessons in memorable ways. And in highly valuable "What now?" summaries at the end of each chapter, Crosby provides clear, concise direction on what investors should think, ask, and do to benefit from the behavioral research.
Dr. Crosby's training as a clinical psychologist and work as an asset manager provide a unique vantage and result in a book that breaks new ground in behavioral finance. You need to follow the laws of wealth to manage your behavior and improve your investing process!

Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

The legendary investor shows how to identify and master the cycles that govern the markets. We all know markets rise and fall, but when should you pull out, and when should you stay in? The answer is never black or white, but is best reached through a keen understanding of the reasons behind the rhythm of cycles. Confidence about where we are in a cycle comes when you learn the patterns of ups and downs that influence not just economics, markets and companies, but also human psychology and the investing behaviors that result.

Story
According to Wall Street Journal investing columnist Spencer Jakab, most of us have no idea how much money we're leaving on the table - or that the average saver doesn't come anywhere close to earning the "average" returns touted in those glossy brochures. We're handicapped not only by psychological biases and a fear of missing out but by an industry with multimillion-dollar marketing budgets and an eye on its own bottom line, not yours.

Story
The Money Formula takes you inside the engine room of the global economy to explore the little-understood world of quantitative finance, and show how the future of our economy rests on the backs of this all-but-impenetrable industry. Written not from a post-crisis perspective - but from a preventative point of view - this book traces the development of financial derivatives from bonds to credit default swaps, and shows how mathematical formulas went beyond pricing to expand their use to the point where they dwarfed the real economy.

Good Overall
Like most of these type of books there's a lot of fluff and a lot of things you probably already know. I appreciated the overall balanced view of different investing strategies instead of just advocating one style of investing as the only strategy worthwhile as many do. I would recommend it as a good read, especially for newer investors

Interesting, but with only a few new ideas
Interesting book, full of quotes and anecdotes from other authors, but without many new ideas. While the first part of the book promotes good investment behavior, the second part is just a rather vague active investment strategy based on value and momentum.
