About this listen

Even the dead long for home ...

They are the Lost Legions. Famed warriors in the annals of military history, made famous when they struck out for the stars to fight a Savage invasion ... never to return or be heard from again.

Until new evidence is uncovered that a Lost Legion sleeps in the pocked craters of a distant mining world.

Sergeant Carson Metzger, a replacement pilot for a Republic HARD HK-PP mech unit, is sent to act as security for the science team seeking to confirm the discovery of the fabled missing legion.

But when the local miners object to the arrival of Republic forces, tensions simmer to an all-out boil. Caught in a hostile revolt and stranded from the rest of their unit, Metzger and his fellow mech jockeys must survive against overwhelming odds ...

... or suffer the same fate as the Lost Legion that came before.

Jump in the cockpit and get ready to stomp through the destruction with this stand-alone tale by New York Times best-selling author Blaine L. Pardoe with Anspach & Cole.

It’s time to bring the Lost Legion home!

A fresh take on the Order of the Centurion.

As an amateur historian and combat veteran, the story was amazingly well structured. I finished it in a day.

Great Expansion for both the series & universe of GE with 1 caveat

first let's gets the biggest complaint out of the way...as usual, it's the narration when it's subpar. it usually makes or breaks audibooks. I've elsrned to mitigate difficult to listen to narrators by adjusting the speed, usually at least 10% faster (1.1X) or above. usually the narrator is too slow paced, amd sometimes the faster speed also not only makes them feel more normal, but also helps the pitch/tone also. Sadly, as not uncommon unless you find a great narrator like RC Bray, I usually have to employ this just to get thru the book. that is the case here. but I only dock 2 stars because the narration wasn't the worst I've ever heard. it would have been 1 if I couldn't adjust the speed, and REALLY made it hard to get into this book! I wish GE would listen to their loyal readers and listeners by getting consistently better narrators. I don't mean a personal offense. but it is a product and deserves honest feedback.

as for the story, it's great, if a little slow to start. the GE universe hasn't had much if any mechanical in the books I've heard (probably about 80% of all GE books). while I do appreciate this branching off and new direction GE could take, it does feel a little bit like "why doesn't the republic, at this stage run by the house of reason, ditch the legion which they clearly don't like, and for heavy mech?" I mean they made legionnaires look like the JV squad (sorry alight spoiler...but that will be the only 1 as I hate spoilers). I would like to see more mech-centric aspects to GE books, perhaps a new spinoff series using this one as a launching platform with Metzger?

overall the story was decent, but I have grown accustomed to this series awarding the order of the centurion to a main or at least living character in the books for part of the story. I felt the author missed a chance to award one of the 2 main characters the order, at least honorary, and/or invitation into the legion. I won't say how it ends but this part could have really cinched the knot and made nice this a 5 star story. 4 stars as a result. good addition and once you get used to the narrator and speed up the narration, and get past the back story part during rhe first hour or 2 of the book, which does drag a little, it gets better. I do give the narrator kudos for the battle sequences, which is likely why he was chosen for a mech book, as he was best at these scenes. but the personal interactions were grating, dialogue not being a strong suit. Just my 2 cents.

Yet Another Winner

This was yet another great addition to the Galaxy’s Edge Universe. This was a great blend of “standard” GE and new elements.

Damn good story and Love the mechs!

This story is solid, the aspect between the two main characters are wonderful and the ending was brilliant. The implementation of mechs and its deeper dive was something I was very much craving after the other Order of the Centurion books The Reservist. Great read, I do recommend.

Ok but not great

I’m a huge fan of the galaxy’s edge series and audiobooks in general, having listened to several hundred over the last few years.

Unfortunately, I found this storyline to be far more mundane then the majority of galaxy edge works and frankly, the narrator made the story seem cheesy. His voice inflections and speech cadence are simply offputting.

Gimme more!!!

An awesome entry into the Galaxy’s Edge universe by Blaine L. Pardoe. He leveraged his experience with writing for Battletech & his own Land and Sea series into a great book that is all GE! We need more HK action.

Fantastic!

This is a completely different kind of story in this series. The narration is very good. This book is excellent and gives us a deeper look into the wounded warriors who battle to fight on and heal. Plus... the action, lots of action!
