About this listen

A drop, in spook parlance, is the passing on of secret information. It's also what happens just before you hit the ground. Old spooks carry the memory of tradecraft in their bones, and when Solomon Dortmund sees an envelope being passed from one pair of hands to another in a Marylebone cafe, he knows he's witnessed more than an innocent encounter. But in relaying his suspicions to John Bachelor, who babysits retired spies like Solly for MI5, he sets in motion a train of events that will alter lives.

Must read for Lech’s real story!

I’d skipped the .5 novellas between the Slough House series of books, but I am reading them now, having finished Joe Country, and arriving at another 1/2 book in the series. The List and The Marlyebone Drop have provided needed background to several stories in the main series. It is cost effective on Audible to pay for these in cash rather than credits as they are appropriately priced as cheaper than a credit.

Love the continuation of the last short story

I don't remember whether it was 1.5 or 2.5, but I thought the story really good...almost a shame that it wasn't continuing. How serendipitous it was for me to discover at the beginning of this book that it was! I love the narration and the plot is always solid.

Another nice one.

Another little short one to flesh out the other short one, The List. With The Catch to follow
As usually clever satirical funny writing. Nice plot twists. It’s short but satisfying.

Mick Herron is so clever!

His cup runneth over, truly. This little short story is clean & tidy but still pulls at the seams - it’s not just unpredictable, it also packs a surprising punch in the last five minutes – I can’t put down his stuff… Ask

Fill in the blanks

I love getting deeper into main characters from the Slough Series. It helps see the story from another perspective.

Short but interesting

Not being familiar with this book series, it was hard to feel like I was getting to know the characters, etc. I will need to read a book length.

A dark story as told by dark characters

Mick Herron never fails his readers. The human frailties of his characters, the brutality of his imagery, the surgical choices of his vocabulary all combine to deliver a most entertaining read. It’s not hard to understand that Herron’s followers are almost a cult.

New Characters Introduced

Short novella introduces new characters and storylines. Basically Mick’s moving chess pieces into place for the next chapter.

Such great writing

Even the smallest detail becomes appetizingly delicious with the writing of Mick Herron. What a gift. Great addition to Slough House collection of stories.
