About this listen

What is the nature of fate? Is young Merlin destined to be a powerful wizard, or does he have a choice?

These are the questions Merlin must answer as he travels with the deer woman Hallia to the Haunted Marsh, where the marsh ghouls have begun a campaign of destruction. Or are the ghouls being manipulated by an even greater source of evil? An evil that seeks to destroy not the marsh, but Merlin himself.

Here, in the fourth installment of the Lost Years of Merlin epic, master storyteller T.A. Barron weaves a tale of humor, adventure, and surprise. Merlin unravels the mystery of the Haunted Marsh, meets a boy named Arthur, and travels through a mirror of mist that brings him face to face with his destiny.

Not as great as the other books but still amazing!

The story is a little slower than the others but there are beautiful and amazing moments throughout.

Improvement, Especially by Audible

Audible finally got it's chapters mostly correct! It just has prologue as Chapter 1, so was always 1 chapter off, but unlike other 3 books, doesn't weirdly start and end in-between chapters in no discernable way. Much better to stop at actual chapters which I'm glad this one did! 👍

I also enjoyed this story a bit more than the previous ones. A bit more exciting direction this one took I feel like, but difficult to say anything without spoilers.

Another wonderful book in the Merlin series!

I love listening to the Merlin stories while I play Legos. It was so much fun to hear about dragons and Kreelexs. Love these books! -Pierce, age 7.

I got this far, but

I got this far, but I can bear to go no farther. I can take only so much urgency in a story. The frenzy of peril that typically marks young first person narrations eventually wears me down. Perhaps I will reread The Chronicles of Prydain. Or Narnia. or The Sword in the Stone.
Kevin's narration has been OK, but I am going to put in a request that the editors let a female reader take on the female roles.
