About this listen

"Full of tongue-in-cheek humor, excellent dialogue, and fantastic characters, this expertly crafted story from Carter (The Blonde Identity) is a heart-melting rivals-to-lovers romance combined with a delightful locked-room mystery." — Library Journal (starred review)

Knives Out gets a holiday rom-com twist in this rivals-to-lovers romance-mystery from New York Times bestselling author Ally Carter.

The bridge is out. The phones are down. And the most famous mystery writer in the world just disappeared out of a locked room two days before Christmas.

Meet Maggie Chase and Ethan Wyatt:

She’s the new Queen of the Cozy Mystery.

He’s Mr. Big-time Thriller Guy.

She hates his guts.

He thinks her name is Marcie (no matter how many times she’s told him otherwise.)

But when they both accept a cryptic invitation to attend a Christmas house party at the English estate of a reclusive fan, neither is expecting their host to be the most powerful author in the world: Eleanor Ashley, the Duchess of Death herself.

That night, the weather turns, and the next morning Eleanor is gone.

She vanished from a locked room, and Maggie has to wonder: Is Eleanor in danger? Or is it all some kind of test? Is Ethan the competition? Or is he the only person in that snowbound mansion she can trust?

As the snow gets deeper and the stakes get higher, every clue will bring Maggie and Ethan closer to the truth—and each other. Because, this Christmas, these two rivals are going to have to become allies (and maybe more) if they have any hope of saving Eleanor.

Assuming they don’t kill each other first.

The laugh out loud holiday "romystery" that you've been waiting for!

What happened to Alex?!?!?

***3.5***

I worshipped TBI! What happened to Alex? What's up w/ the cartoon cover? What happened to the rom? What happened to the com?

Saskia Maarleveld was fine per usual but Zachary Webber was under utilized as an afterthought.

So good!

I’m not a big romance type of girl. I love murder, mystery, horror, and crime novels BUT… this one was so good!! It’s perfect for the Christmas season with mystery, hint of action, and romance!! Highly recommend!!

Entertaining mystery novel

I couldn’t stop listening to this book until the very end. The characters were well developed and the mystery kept me intrigued. I plan to gift this book to my friends this Christmas since it was such a fun book!

Incredible audio & story

LOVED LOVED LOVED this.

The perfect amount of banter and mystery/romance. The performance was incredible. I’m always happy with a Saskia or Zachary book and both of them together was just *chef’s kiss*

Loved!

I don’t usually listen to holiday specific books but I loved this! Chemistry between the main characters is great and the story line kept me hooked the whole time.

The Perfect Christmas Cozy Mystery 🥰

This was the perfect tagalong for me during a season of joy and chaos. I fell in love with the characters and will forever be in search of my own Eleanore 😍

A love letter to Agatha Christie

I don’t read romance. And I was suspicious of this book. But I gave it a try. And I’m so glad I did! It is so much fun.

A Beautifully Balanced Blend of Beloved Genres!

I’ll admit I kind of underestimated this book. I expected it to be kitschy and quant, but that’s what I came for. Sometimes that’s what makes a cozy a cozy, getting exactly what you expect. But before long I was gasping at reveals, guffawing at clever quips, and gushing over the romance! Romance and classic “locked room” murder mysteries are my favorite genres of all time, and this knocked BOTH out of the park! Ally Carter came to kick butt and chew bubblegum and she definitely ran out of bubblegum by page 2! The voice acting didn’t leave anything on the table, it was a phenomenal performance beginning to end! I think the audiobook format really enhanced my experience but I can’t wait to pick up a physical copy to compare and re-experience the whole caper knowing about every clue and everyone’s true motives! As always with a new favorite, my only problem is my greed. This should be a series! Take my money Ally Carter!
