Listen to this story... you won't be disappointed

Why in the world would someone expect another really good writer in their own style to set out to produce a story "JUST LIKE" Outlander. Just because it involves traveling back in time doesn't mean it has to be compared. Why not just enjoy it for what it is. A good story, well worth the listen.

I will say as a matter of small complaint, that the narrator was a little "meek" for what I thought Eva might really be like but just the fact that I was thinking about that, means that the author did her part in building the character/s for me. I feel like I know Trelowarth.

I do wish the story had been longer and I suppose that too is a compliment to the writer. I think there is room for another story and do hope that Ms. Kearsley will have a care for those of us that truly loved the story and tell us more.

Good Enough for a credit, but better on sale

This book started out a little slow and boring. However, as the story progressed it did get better. Like many other reviewers I didn't much care for the narration either (just a personal preference).
If you like time-travel romance novels then you will enjoy this one. It's not as good as Outlander, but it's still an enjoyable listen.
It's worth a credit, but it's even better on sale.

Time travel at its best!

I loved the characters, the time travel back into history and I loved the "twist"......

It's own tale! Refreshingly different to Outlander

I needed a break after completing Outlander book 4 and this book was a sigh of relief. I don't think I can finish the Outlander series with its over laden sex scenes and ooey-gooey love triangles. This book was romantic but not overly so. It had much more time travel although not enough time spent in the past. This novel had one sex scene which was not graphic (yeah) and was tastefully done like how old movies were once produced. The ending was tied off nicely with no cliffhanger leading into a sequel (although I do enjoy series novels, but you don't feel that obligation to continue). It wasn't 40 hours either, again which I don't mind if the character isn't annoying (like Claire and Brianna from Outlander). I liked all the characters of this book. I liked the reader although she lacks in reading convincing male dialog. I wish all the reviewers would quit shining negative light on this book thinking it's going to be just like Outlander. I would hope it's not like Outlander. I am not the only person annoyed by the over sexed Claire Beecham Randall and her bratty daughter Brianna from the Outlander series. I do wish the time travel was a little more controlled but then many circumstances would not exist so it had to be this way. Nice and easy read and more believable scenario of how someone would behave going back in time a few hundred years.

Love this Author & her style

I read Kearsley's first book- which I highly reccommend- and had to have this one. Great story! Takes a little time to get the "hook" in the beginning, but worth the time. Narrator was good too. I can't wait to read her next one!!!

Love Susanna's writing, but...

Susanna's book are always interesting and enjoyable- but narrator almost caused me to put this one down. Why would an American main character narrate a story with a British accent? Welsh seems like an evasive accent for her to capture- sometimes, characters spoke proper British, other times a sad attempt that came out sounding like bad Irish. Sometimes the main character spoke with an accent and seem to suddenly remember she was American. The Irish character was always presented correctly, but the inconsistency with the others was, in the least, distracting and at times so annoying as to pull me out of the story . And for God's sake, can narrators not figure out how to pronounce words correctly before they record a book?!

There were elements of the story that I recognized from other authors' work but not so much as to take away from the story Overall, a pleasant read- not great, but good. Shame about the narrator.

Narrator Nicola Barber

How could anyone hired to read a Susanna Kearsley novel not know how to pronounce Jacobite? Her Cornish accent sounds closer to Irish and was sometimes nonexistent. One phrase even sounded more northern. But, since it is one of my favorite Kearsley stories, I muddled through the bad narration.

Time Travel with Some Light Romance

I enjoyed this book. It was light and fun, just what I was in the mood for. I plan to listen to others by this author when I'm looking for something similar. Time travel always requires some suspension of belief but this made enough sense to work without being distracting. I thought the book was well-written and provided just enough glimpse back into the historical period to teach me a little something along the way. Nicola Barber did a nice job of narrating the book. No need for a plot summary here; audible has provided that.

If you like a bit of history and a light romance with some time travel thrown in, give this book a try.

Very good

What did you love best about The Rose Garden?

The scenery

What did you like best about this story?

The twist towards the end

Which scene was your favorite?

I think any scene involving the cliffs and the water

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

Lovely story, kind of adventurous and of course unrealistic, but you know that before you buy it. I love this author's stories and this isn't my favorite but the scenery, romance, adventure and historical aspect are all extremely satisfying.
