About this listen

Set in Townsend, Tennessee, at the turn of the 20th century, this prequel to Wild-Eyed Southern Boyz tells the story of the dreaded Rougarou War. This action-packed prequel brings back some of the most beloved characters from book one in their younger years.

You will learn the real story of the Rougarou War and the heroic acts of a young Jedidiah Boruff, Robert Cody, and Gary Allen. You probably know these characters as Papaw, Preacher Cody, and Mayor Allen. You probably have other questions that you want to be answered. How did the Rue family become such trusted allies to the people of Stillwater? How did the Foresters end up in Stillwater in the first place? What happened to Preacher Cody that made him trade the battlefield for the pulpit? What does a story that took place over a hundred years ago have to do with what comes next for our modern-day heroes? The answers to these questions are waiting for you.

Colonel W.B. Townsend has fallen on rough times establishing the Little River Lumber Company due to strange occurrences preventing the construction of his railroad. Detectives William Rue and Johnny Walking-Stick from the Pinkerton Detective Agency are called to find the unknown saboteurs and bring them to justice. A new threat descends on this small, developing town, with nefarious plans that may one day threaten the entire world. Will the citizens of Townsend and the Foresters of Stillwater set aside their differences and join forces against the shape-shifting nightmare known as the Rougarou?

This story is a prequel, but it ties up some unanswered questions from book one, then ties directly into our modern-day heroes' next big adventure. If you haven't listened to book one, you should start there first. Enjoy this second installment in the Wild-Eyed Southern Boyz Series!

Now THAT is storytelling!

For those of you that have listened to or read W.E.S.B book one, you already know how fantastically magical the world Richard has created is. Filled with wonderful characters, insane battles and hilariously fun situations. This prequel gives you all of that and more! For you others, I suggest you check out book one before taking this ride to the past. Trust me. It will make this story more meaningful and hit you the way it’s intended. Meeting beloved characters when they were much younger really brings them to life. The new characters add to an already beautiful cast. As for the war itself. It pulls you in and doesn’t let go. The action sequences flow like a Tennessee stream. The intensity and heartbreak are palpable. Richard R Rose is a Star in the making. I’m so excited for the release of the next book. Fan for life!

Intense Storyline

The Rougarou War is as intense as it is heartbreaking. The storyline is well written and action packed. The plot pulls you end and does not let go as the story intensifies to one hundred. I enjoyed learning about Stillwater and its inhabitants as well as meeting new characters. I highly recommend this book but you may want to read the first book so that it will help you to better understand. I received this book for free upon my request but it has no bearing on my review.

I had to put tools down and listen

I can't remember everything I have read but I know these books must be in my top three. it's the ultimate juxtaposition between real life and fantasy. Think Forrest Gump but with Sasquatches.

excellent prequel

Mr Rose has crafted a prequel story to his Wild Eyed Southern Boyz novel that provides even more depth and backstory to a tail that was already rich in depth and backstory.

Whether you're looking for a prequel to his other book or simply an excellent standalone story, give this one a shot. You won't be disappointed.

Rougarou War

Another great read! Highly recommend reading Wild eyes southern boyz before this book though! The first book was awesome and the story gets you hooked- but also has a lot of unanswered questions that you will want to know. This book answers those questions and gives another great story. I wish it was longer like the first book! Can’t wait for the next one!!

I inhaled this book

This book is hotter than a branding iron! Book one was ton of fun and sheer insanity that made my velvet painting of the Outlaw Josey Wales cry and this book is no different. Well, it is, because its a prequel. That doesn't mean you wont rue-garoooooooooo the day you don't listen to this book. Seriously, I'm not one to spoil things, so I won't go into detail but suffice it to say I nestled into my comfy chair I stole from the Spanish Inquisition and settled down to listen. I was pleasantly scratching my macaroni dogman statue behind the ears as the tale unfolded. Once more I had some southern fried chicken to munch on as Vernon lent his dulcet tones to the story. I want to say I didn't so much listen to this book, I inhaled it! Most people say they devour a book, but I took this book, chopped it into a fine powder, didn't bother to cut it, and snorted it so hard that it dusted my brain like dust from a butterfly's wings. I started listening about five minutes after I downloaded it and didn't stop until it ended. I used to go to Cedar Point and go on rides like the Demon Drop and what used to be one of the tallest rollercoasters in the world; if you thought those were wild rides then you never experienced the writings of the BLACK ROSE, well Richard Rose, but he's earned the appellation. He's a writing Super-Villain.

In this book He's added some backstory info by slipping it into . . . a . . . prequel. Insidious. Nefarious. Genius, and all other kinds of ius's that I can't think of at the moment; Rose manages to explain a few things that you were wondering about from Novel Uno. Suffice it to say that the book isn't filler, it fills out and is as full as the first book but with some clarity.

As it stands, this is quickly becoming a favorite series of mine. I'm sure it will for you too. It has masterful storytelling, interesting characters, blood, battle, and brain destroying concepts that will shatter your views on reality. Think about it, what if dogmen and bigfoots, big feet? Erm, sasquatches, were real and the military were involved. PLUS it has an amazing narrator with the Villainous Vernon.

What a pair, the Black Rose and the Villainous Vernon teaming up to take your credits, and you will happily hand them over. Enough ranting. Get buying these books!

Great story

Great prequel it answered a lot of questions and sets things up great for the tie in to the next book. Narrator was great. This story was a little faster paced than the first book without sacrificing any of the story telling

A gift that keeps giving

After finding the first book in this series I fell in love. I immediately got my hands on this one and again was not disappointed. In this prequel, you get some amazing backstories of the characters and some history of the fabled Rougarou wars. Adding in all the mythical creatures, Richard made the story even better. I freaking love this series. Then you throw in Stephen's narration and you will not regret diving into this series. I would say if you like Mark Tufo's books, horror comedies mashups then this is the series for you!
