About this listen

Lydia, Dean, and Robyn don't know one another...yet. Each is facing difficult challenges: Lydia is still wearing the scars from her traumatic childhood. Wealthy and successful, she leads a lonely and disjointed existence. Dean is a young, unemployed, single dad whose life is going nowhere. Robyn is 18. Gorgeous, popular, and intelligent, she entered her first year of college confident about her dream to become a pediatrician. Now she's failing her classes. Now she's falling in love for the first time.

Lydia, Dean, and Robyn live very different lives, but each of them, independently, has always felt that something was missing. What they don't know is that a letter is about to arrive that will turn their lives upside down. It's a letter containing a secret - one that will bind them together and show them what love and family and friendship really mean.

A literary gem, The Making of Us will remind listeners of the miracles that happen when we bring life into the world and share our lives with those we love.

I'm a big fan of Lisa Jewell's work. This one, I'll admit, took me a little while to get into. Largely what kept me enthralled was the narrator; her voice is silky & envelopes you as you listen. Highly recommended.

Well Weaved Story With Equally Matched Performance

Overall a good story. Some places the author got a little too caught up in description and background story. Helen Duff did excellent job reading and characters have distinct voices. Highly enjoyed!

This isn’t what I was expecting but I’m so glad that I listened! The narration is fantastic and the story is lovely❤️

I thought the overall storyline was unique. I'm tired of characters who drink and do drugs, tho. Not everyone does! The story was a little boring at times. I thought it didn't need to go as in-depth to the characters' pasts. I got bored during those parts. For the most part, the narrator was great at using different tones for different characters. I hated the way she said "wow" though. It made me cringe after the first 10 times!

I needed a positive story like this during the pandemic. A bit predictable, but it kept my interest.

Feel good story

If there is a signature word in this novel, it’s “wow.” Nearly every character utters it. The story is intriguing. The characters are strong. The performance from Helen Duff is off the charts. For me, it’s this performance that makes the book.

Woww
