About this listen

Lydia, Dean, and Robyn don't know one another...yet. Each is facing difficult challenges: Lydia is still wearing the scars from her traumatic childhood. Wealthy and successful, she leads a lonely and disjointed existence. Dean is a young, unemployed, single dad whose life is going nowhere. Robyn is 18. Gorgeous, popular, and intelligent, she entered her first year of college confident about her dream to become a pediatrician. Now she's failing her classes. Now she's falling in love for the first time.

Lydia, Dean, and Robyn live very different lives, but each of them, independently, has always felt that something was missing. What they don't know is that a letter is about to arrive that will turn their lives upside down. It's a letter containing a secret - one that will bind them together and show them what love and family and friendship really mean.

A literary gem, The Making of Us will remind listeners of the miracles that happen when we bring life into the world and share our lives with those we love.

Not a bad story to while away the time

My only quarrel was with the narrator’s pronunciation of the character with an Eastern European accent. And for some reason this character said “wow” frequently and it sounded like buffoonery the way she tried to say this, in a male voice speaking accented British English. I thought the story held my interest. Nothing wowed me (haha) though.

Interesting

Lisa Jewell has an amazing ability to bring forth the most interesting characters. This is the first book I have listened to of hers that was not a mystery, however, the characters were so vivid that I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen to them. Bravo!

Poignant and at times heart wrenching

Lydia, Dean, Robyn, little Thomas and Daniel... alll connected because of DNA. The story is that of family but not in the usual way. It's more about the family that finds one another.

Loved this book

Very interesting book about a subject rarely written about. I loved the way the family dynamics unfold. The narrator was excellent. I would definitely recommend. I’ll be looking king for more Lisa Jewell novels, for sure.

Another Brilliant Story ❣️

Each book I read from Lisa Jewell is better than the one that I read before. this one had so much substance to it but didn't come off as a cheap...even with the romances. If truth really is stranger then fiction I think this author has an imagination that is stranger than truth. I hope she keeps writing more and more books because I am never disappointed in her work.

Solid read

Interesting concept, especially in this era of family DNA histories making international headlines. Each character has a different, often painful experience that fills out the storyline. The reader, Helen Duff, is excellent. She is well qualified to voice the various characters and make them distinct. Unfortunately, the book dissolved into a smarmy feel good ending that was a disservice to the otherwise interesting people populating this book.
