About this listen

I used to be the greatest Earth Mage in my world. The head of the entire Order of Architects. But the older you get, the more you come to realize that at some point, you need to retire, so that you can have the chance to enjoy a peaceful life and to cede your place to the young, some of whom have already turned two thousand years old . . .

So that's what I did. I had everything I could ever want, and even more besides. But I failed to account for one thing: during the course of my long life, I'd accumulated too many enemies, and they had decided to spoil my retirement. So they died along with me. And I hope their deaths were final. But mine was not!

I've been reborn in a strange new world, and I now need to start over. I still have all my experience and memories, but what about my power? I've managed to climb to the top once already; I can do it again! And it's crucial that I do so before this world is consumed by the beasts from the Shadow Plane . . .

Surprised me!

Not your average Fantasy book and it is well written if a lot of introspection, but hey give the guy some credit he is reborn and figuring things out. Slow at times but the build up is good to how he is starting out. I enjoyed the listen and didn't give up like with other stories I have bought lately, the ending leads to the next book, wish it would have been a longer book but hey that's me.
Kevin narrated the book very well and I am back on the bus to listen to other books by him again, I was crushed by Dual sword gods narration and if you love Kevin don't listen to that series. He is one of my Favorite narrators but had to take a break after that from anything he narrated.
Looking forward to the next book and if you like a man fighting to change his luck in a new world this book is worth the credit and the cover art is Awesome too, Glad its not a A.I. picture.

Wasn’t sure what to expect, but overall a good book and good story. Looking forward to the next in the series to come out

Great store but a mediocre narration.

I really enjoyed the store but unfortunately the narrator's reading makes the mail main character sound like a pretentious jerk or an evil villain.

Something to consider

Okay so, let me start off by saying I've read like 8.5 books from three different series of this authors and I have enjoyed them all. That being said, I've noticed some things that have kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. At first I thought it was just the characters having flaws and being imperfect but over the course of the three different series I have to reconcile the fact that it is probably with the author that these issues lay and not the characters. There are several instances per book of sexism, misogyny, and underlying racial stereotyping. I truly want to believe that this is subconscious on the part of the author, but I can't say for sure; equally as troubling is the lack of recognition of these instances I've seen in reviews. It truly is hard to notice and easy to excuse at first, but after completing The Hunter's Code book 3, it's impossible to miss at this point. The series in reference/books I've completed are The Hunter's Code 1-3, The Healers Way 1-6, and The Order of Architects 1-2. I would say it is most prominent in the Hunter's Code and least prominent in The Order of Architects, and I am unsure if this has to due with the coauthors in particular. I think it's extra disappointing cause the books themselves are pretty good, the worlds are unique, the magic system is pretty well-balanced, and, for the most part, the characters are relatable and pretty interesting. Also it goes without saying (and even with) that the narrators all do an excellent job.

Narcissistic old man monologue

The book consists of a prideful/narcissistic old man monologue that’s not interesting in any way. The plot is slow and boring.

You can always tell when the author is Russian. But this rebirth story felt a but different and i like the premise.

Haphazard storyline.

Poor world building and the mc is talking too much about how great he was and repeats himself too often. The writing needs work and the story needs to be expanded and figure out a path to take. Has some decent ideas that needed to be expanded upon.
Ok if you have nothing else to listen to.

Excellent story so far.

An excellent beginning to a new series. I have come to really enjoy the stories from this author, even though some of them are very similar in their origin the directions they go and the events that happen tells an excellent story.
