Publisher's summary

In this clever epic fantasy, escaping the curse Rasp Stoneclaw has been running from since birth may be trickier than expected.

Runaway heir Rasp Stoneclaw was born cursed, prophesied to bring destruction to the world. Now exiled by the Stoneclaw tribe after his brothers drove him out, he lives under an assumed name. Far from the curse, of course.

Meanwhile, Protector of the Realm Oralia Dawnsight—along with her team, the rebellious faithful four—is on the hunt for Rasp, ready to restore him to the throne for the small price of a trade route truce. She'll get Rasp to agree to a deal, and then they'll be on their way up the mountain path to install him as the new, peaceful leader of the Iron Ridge. Simple, right?

But little does Oralia know the newly selfless Rasp has no intention of ever reaching the Iron Ridge. And little does Rasp know Oralia has some tricks of her own up her sleeve . . .

The first volume of the hit fantasy-adventure series—originally released on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

benny hill up the mountain and into your heart

the character work is superb. the mask all the characters wear to each other presenting a calm and collected front while simultaneously losing their shit internally is masterfully done. do recomend. worth the credit.

Dynamic solo narration; epically witty adventure

This book is a banter lover’s dream. Banter and crass humor has to account for at least 70% of the word count. It’s magnificent. This is told in third person with character conversations being the primary source of information to the reader. This book is clever and dynamic. Characters are witty and deceptively intelligent. The MC is blind which feels to me like a low incidence representation in fantasy - I haven’t come across it often. Rasp (human) and Faris (faun) absolutely reminds me of an adult (and maybe slightly unsavory) version of Percy and Grover (Percy Jackson).

Romance is not a focus in any way in this plot. So if that’s important to you, this is likely not a great read for you. There’s innuendos a plenty but major no tension/suspense/intrigue with a romantic focus.

I accidentally signed myself up for an eARC of this adventure thinking it was an audiobook ARC. I loved that for me. This is listed as 396 pages. Pretty sure that’s a lie. My kindle says it’s 528. This is backed up by the audiobook being close to 16 hrs. I ended up purchasing the audiobook myself.

Watt is outstanding. Their ability to alter their voice is extremely impressive. This book has a large cast. Watt made each character individually identifiable. Even still, if you don’t follow complex audio narration with ease, this book is likely best consumed with eyeball reading.
