About this listen

"You don't think Jamie and I have secrets, do you? No, we tell each other everything", she smiled. "Including your dirty little secret. So, thinking about it, maybe it's time to start being nice to me?"

The wife: Clare is ready for a break. It's been a tough year and now she wants to put her feet up. Arriving at the Italian villa for their summer holiday, she decides it's high time her husband and his family did some of the work. After all, her husband owes her....

The husband: Even though Dan had his head turned by someone else, he's realised the error of his ways. He's here now, and he says it's for keeps. Clare can trust him, can't she? At least he'll have his brother there, to keep him in line....

The brother: Jamie is the prodigal child, back in the family fold again, after years of travelling abroad. But when he gets to the villa, he's not alone. He's brought a wife, someone none of them have met before.

The sister-in-law: Ella is everything Clare isn't. Glamorous. Young. Influential. But she knows a secret about Clare. Something that has the power to break the whole family apart.

And there's someone who will do whatever it takes to make sure that this deep secret never comes to the surface.

An utterly gripping, twisty psychological thriller perfect for fans of Before I Go to Sleep, The Girl on the Train, and Date Night.

"Tense, atmospheric psychological thriller with more twists and turns than a rollercoaster. Impeccably written and a big fat 5 stars from me. Awesome!" (Number one best-selling author Angela Marsons)

Great summer read!

This is the perfect book is you’re looking for something dramatic to listen to while you’re at the beach. I couldn’t stop listening until it was over.

Wow what a story and ending, would never have guessed it. Thoroughly enjoyed this audible book and loved the characters and everything about it. The narration was excellent.

ok

interesting story but it's maddening to listen to a story where someone reacts to things in a way that's not realistic. like if your brand new sister in law flat out called you far or made a sarcastic remark implying it, you and your family would say something.

Good story...

I thought is was a good story overall but it was slow. There's some shocking moments in it and some surprises but you have to be patient.

Story great, narrator awful. Read the actual book

I am not even done with this audiobook, and I probably should’ve stopped listening a while ago. The narrator is the worst I’ve ever heard. She sounds like an 85-year-old smoker who just had her molars extracted and has a mouthful of cotton. She does not sound like a 40-year mom of young children. This is particularly annoying when she tries to make her voice sound even older as the mother-in-law. The story is good, I wish I would’ve read the actual book instead.

Drown Them All

I have listened to most of Watson’s books and this one is a disappointment. The plot is compelling but poorly developed. The tempo of the story is chaotic. The first half is slow and then the plot twists hit and the story line turns into a soap opera. There are many underdeveloped threads and overly simplified character dilemmas that make the twists less believable and in cases cringy. By the end of the book you wish all of the adult characters drown.
I did enjoy the way the children were cleverly incorporated into the plot and the antagonist is someone you will love to hate (until you don’t).
I’d pass on this one, especially if it’s your first Watson listen. Her others are definitely worth a try!

A MUST READ!

Oh my gosh, I was hooked the entire time. It’s a story that was very relatable to me, so there was a bit of bias there. But it was also incredibly written: I felt I really KNEW these characters. And very clever also. Definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a light read with some edge, comedy, and psychological game playing! On to Sue’s next book!

Been There, Done That

Hackneyed story with completely vapid, self-centered, selfish characters. The one "plot twist" was always hinted at so it was almost predictable. The main character was so codependent she might as well have been described as a doormat. If you like petulance, you'll love this book.
