About this listen

Many of us think of the stock market as an arcane system and of investing as a mysterious art form. The truth, however, is that stock and bond markets are a lot like other markets (including your familiar grocery store) and that investing your hard-earned money in them can reap rewards—so long as you know the economic principles behind them.

Satisfy the financial skeptic in you with The Skeptic’s Guide to Investing, a six-lecture Audible Original where you’ll learn how financial markets operate so you can become a wiser, savvier, safer investor. Along with a deep look at the inner workings of these powerful markets, Professor Ramon P. DeGennaro offers a wealth of insight into investment strategies, whether you’re already a stockholder or thinking of investing for the first time.

You’ll explore when the time is right to make a new investment; how to allocate your investments to fit your personal financial goals and needs; and how to manage your portfolio so the tax man gets as little as legally possible. You’ll also examine common investing mistakes people make and how to avoid them; the difference between good and bad deals; the art of making calculated investment risks; and even how to soften the financial (and emotional) blow if things don’t go as well as you’d hoped.

While there are no magic secrets to getting rich quickly, there are ways to make investments work for you without keeping you up at night. This Audible Original shows you how.

The delivery was exceptional

I found this to be well written, and because of the author’s narration, enthusiasm, articulation, dynamics, confidence, knowledge, and how effective he is in delivering the content, I stayed interested throughout the entire book, and actually learned from it, unlike many books I’ve listened to. Fabulous job!!!

Pretty simple, but nice overview of basic investing

Pretty simple, but nice overview of basic investing. Second part is for US tax payers almost exclusively except thinking about how it relates/things are in your own country. I would recommend it if your not too sure about what bonds and stocks are or how they are different and risk! Thanks Ramon

Essential Primer on Investing

This is a fantastic introduction to investing. If you are in your 20's it will get you started toward financial freedom and independence. If you are older, hopefully, it will jump start you into habits you should have started earlier in life - but you still have time to fix your money habits.

No go for me

Did not like this reading. What makes it worse is the lack of focus. The book tries to cover everything—budgeting, investing, debt, corporate finance—but ends up saying nothing meaningful about any of them. It's like the author couldn’t decide on their target audience. There are plenty of OTHER good books !

Meh

Not very detailed and not very interesting. Not what I had come to expect from The Great Courses. Pretty disappointing content.
