About this listen

British spy Emma Makepeace goes undercover on a Russian oligarch’s superyacht, where she’s one wrong move away from a watery grave, in this electrifying thriller from the author of Alias Emma.

“Delivers everything fans of spy fiction could want: an absorbing plot, shadowy characters, page-gripping tension.”—The Washington Post (Best Books of the Year)

An MI6 operative is found dead, locked in a suitcase inside his own apartment. Despite an exhaustive search, no fingerprints are found at the scene. Emma Makepeace and her handler, Ripley, know an assassination when they see one, and such an obvious murder can mean only one thing: Someone is sending a message.

As she digs into his past, Emma discovers that the unfortunate spy had been investigating two Russian oligarchs based in London. He’d become obsessed with the idea that the two were spies, aided by a third man—whose identity he had yet to uncover. When he shared his findings within MI6 in the weeks before he died, the response came back fast and clear: Drop the investigation and move on. Had he uncovered a secret that cost him his life?

To pick up where he left off without ending up in a suitcase of her own, Emma goes undercover on one of the oligarch’s million-dollar yachts, scheduled to set sail from the Côte d’Azur to Monaco. Under other circumstances, this would be a dream vacation. But if Emma’s real identity gets discovered, it’s a death sentence.

As Emma’s work reveals secrets she’d be safer not knowing, the danger ratchets up. The killer may be closer to home than any of them imagined, and Emma won’t be safe until he—or she—is caught.

I pre-ordered this when Audible told me it was available to, based on how much I loved the first book, story and narrator. With such a strong first novel I was worried how this one would go, but it is absolutely equal in every way. The author doesn’t rely on salaciousness or gore to sell, but on strong and thrilling writing. Keep this up, folks, and I’ll be buying every one she puts out. The narrator has a smooth and flexible voice, so capable with inflection, nuance, and accent, that I would like all my novels read by her, please.

Fantastic listen and story

Terrific narration of an excellent continuation of the Emma Makepeace character. Slightly predictable conclusion but it also kept you guessing at the right spots.

Excellent, tight storyline.

The characters—both British and Russian—were pretty predictable although the dialog was solid. I figured out the ending less than halfway through

Good but predictable

Thrill. Suspense. Action. Heart racing.

Firstly, the narrator is beyond words can express. She's an amazingly talented storyteller!

This book can be read as a stand-alone. However, it would make better sense to read "Alias Emma" first. You won't be disappointed, and it's a super fun, easy read. I can't wait til chapter three comes out!!!

INCREDIBLE!

Great story, scary spies, engaging heroine. Life on a yacht with oligarchs is a good place for the action.

Terrific characters

Enjoyed this entertaining story. Something different than the same ole story. Entertaining without too much blood/gore/sex etc.

Something Different

First of all, the narrator did a smashing job, once again. Her accents are expertly delivered and her voice is a delight to listen to. Secondly, I've waited eagerly for Ava Glass's latest book and it did not disappoint. Without spoilers, I will simply say, I look forward to the next Emma Makepiece adventure. I would love to have had a hardback copy of this book to add to my personal library & am hopeful there will be signed hardback copies available in AG's next book. The listen is thoroughly enjoyable, keeps the reader's attention and well worth the investment of time and money/credits. Well done & looking forward to the next installment!

Another 5-star read from Ava Glass!

Terrific story, believable, intelligent and never over violent or over sexy( which is the sign of a poor writer.)
Wonderful. I’ll get her previous book. Read very well indeed!
